Next Trek Movie Release Confirmed

Villain's plans are quite often rubbish in the first film of a modern geek franchise. Ya have to spend so long introducing everyone to the new folks that by the time you get to the threat, the baddie will just be blowing the crap out of stuff with no full reasoning. X-Men, batman begins anyone? But don't despair, X-men 2 and the dark knight soon followed...

Unfortunately X-Men 3 and Wolverine came soon after... <_<

But I don't mind. It was worth it to see the brilliance of the last flight of the kelvin, karl urban's mccoy and witnessing the kobayashi maru get pwned.

See, the Kobayashi Maru was one of the things that bugged me most about the new movie. Kirk's cheating on the test is canon, but it always seemed to be played as something he'd done very slyly, introducing just enough of a chance that he could pull off one of the close-shave wins for which he later became famous. Hence the commendation for original thinking. Blatantly reprogramming it such that the whole sim blinks off and back on and then having the enemy weapons mysteriously stop working? Pathetic, and he ought to have been thrown out of the Academy for it.

I think he was about to get thrown out for it, but the hearing was cut short.

I'd totally think he'd do it the way you imagine it as well. But you have to remember, he had a completely different upbringing in this universe. He's a bit more of a scoundrel here. <_<

'Tis true. Without his father's guiding influence, and his uncle's draconian handling of both Kirk boys, changed Jim's whole persona. From stealing (and blowing up) his father's prize 67 (I'm guessing) Corvette, to being the only genius-level repeat offender in the American Midwest, to installing a virus into the simulator, are all evidence pointing to that.

Also makes me wonder where Sam Kirk'll end up? And probably not dead on Ingraham B.

My gripe is not so much Colonel H's Kobayashi as when suspended Cadet Kirk wrangled field command from Commander Spock by emotionally compromising him. Very underhanded and unprofessional, Prime Spock giving him the idea aside. Kirk really shouldn't have gotten the Captaincy that easily or kept it from a legal naval standpoint.

Overall, New Kirk is the blatant "space cowboy" the Old Kirk always seemed to be; I think Original Kirk was just better at hiding the cowboy per Shatner's personifications.

We met the new Kirk when he was a bit younger than the original version and he's very raw....not quite as polished as Shatner's personification was. I'm looking forward to seeing how he changes now that he has the weight of the Enterprise squarely on his shoulders.

Also, did anyone notice how Kirk manages to rile up Spock? In both TOS and the new movie, his mother is the vehicle used to melt down the stoic Vulcan. Say whatever you want about his father but don't question his devotion to his mother.
