Kirk vs Picard...not what you think

A blow to the image of Kirk was given by MythBusters recently. They tested out his bamboo canon and the results were less than advertised, at least with the battlefield mixed gunpowder. When they used the real stuff he would have just blown himself up.

And then on New Years Patrick Stewart was knighted.

I still prefer Kirk a little and "Arena" is one of my favorite episodes. It's just as I've always said.... the Gorn should of won!

LOL, I think Kirk sitting there and suddenly exploding would have ruined the episode.

Ah, but they didn't test what would happen if Buster had worn a yellow shirt.

They put a red shirt on him, and at that point the results were fait acompli.

Yup, and here it is, from the NY Times:

"Queen Elizabeth’s annual honors list, announced at midnight on the last day of each year to recognize distinguished service to Britain, includes a knighthood for the actor Patrick Stewart, right, better known to devotees of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” as Capt. Jean-Luc Picard and to fans of the “X-Men” movie series as Prof. Charles Xavier. Also knighted was the artistic director of the National Theater in London, Nicholas Hytner, whose credits include “Miss Saigon” and the film and stage versions of “The Madness of King George.” Arts figures also appear among those receiving the distinction of membership in the Order of the British Empire, the next level down from a knighthood. The jazz pianist Marian McPartland, the longtime host of National Public Radio’s “Piano Jazz” program, received the honor, as did Rick Parfitt and Francis Rossi, songwriting partners and singer-guitarists in the boogie rock band Status Quo. They were joined on the list by the Scottish film composer and producer Craig Armstrong, and Peter Tear, executive director of the Off Broadway 59E59 Theaters."

So, Sir Picardalot? Sir Makeitso??

Just a mention on the Patrick Stewart Roles played. He has been a stage actor for many years in London, and just a bit of trivia for all as well...Mr.Stewart as well played in another "legendary type of movie", Does anyone remember "Excalibur"??.

He was the father of Arthur's soon to be bride...unfortunately we all know how that ended.

I still think Kirk would kick Picard 'round the Academy campus, were it to come to fisticuffs.

I remember some British film he was in about some sort of soul vampires. He ended up dying and blood gushed from his eyes for like 5 minutes straight. It was quite creepy for an older film. Can't remember the name of it though.

Hell yes! He was certainly a bad bad man in that. Watch it people. He doesn't turn up till the later episodes but when he does its worth the wait. Curly red wig and all.

Oh and I think the bamboo cannon idea would be even better if it didn't kill kirk, just blew off his arms, especially if one by fluke managed to hit and kill the gorn. Thats a hard earned victory!

Another role, though not quite as dramatic or inspiring as Excalibur, I will never forget his role as King Richard in Robin Hood Men in Tights.

Oh and of course our former CO on Excalibur did a sketch on him which I'm glad to say I've saved all these years. Sketch is here if you want to see it.

He also played the great (but small) role of Gurney in the 1984 movie version of Dune

You know we do not speak of that film! Bless David Lynch but it is pretty awful. <_<
