Calling all gamers

35 posts in this topic

I've been here a while, and I have yet to see an active thread for gamers, so i thought I'd make one myself. Now to anyone who wants to talk, I thought we'd start off with what stratagies you like (or what ever else works). In games that allow for experimenting with fighting stratagies, are you the time to leap face first into combat, or do you like to sit back and plan first? I'm proud to admit that if you give me a choice, I'm the type who grabs the largest blunt object avaliable and swing away. But what about you?

IDK, I like to sit back and think out the problem logically. I'm making a 2D Stargate SG-1 computer game that has elements of strategic battle, puzzle solving, and RPG, but it's a way coming.

While that would be expencive that's pretty effective, but make sure you have some scouts or something to back the cannons. In Star Craft my favorite stratagy is to make mass Marines and use extra Supply depots to slow them down at choke points.

Ohh that sounds cool, I'm planning on getting into Stargate soon, so I'll try it. Will it be an RTS or something different?

I was never able to use the Nukes well, I always end up destroying ny own force that I just spent an hour on, and barely scratching the enemy.

RTS, a sort of three-fourths view. I'm mostly just doing the graphics. I'm pretty bad at the programming.

Well either way I'll try it, but you know what I'd like? a GTA style game (You know going through the streets doing what ever the **** you want no rules, no clear direction, stuff like that), but from a first person perspective, or a GTA style game set in a fantasy setting (And no RPGs like Oblivion do not count), but I seem to be the only person that thinks either of these is a good idea.

The strategy really depends on what kind of game you play. Although, I must admit that I don't like playing games that make a science out of everything. When it comes to RTS I want to be able to get resources and build an army. Not a big fan of having to pay attention to every detail of my economy, if I want that I do my taxes. Guess that's why I liked StarCraft. But still, in battle I actually think about strategies and such.

When it comes to games like Diablo (another one I used to play obsessively) I got for the "big weapon and lots of strength" approach as well. I have no patience for becoming a sorcerer.

I'm a FPS and RPG gamer by choice.

For FPS games, if I am able to circle a target area and employ a sniper rifle, I'm a happy camper. I'm all about keeping distance. If this is not an option, I prefer up close and personal with some sort of in game shot gun weapon.

Currently, I'm looking forward to the RPG/Action game Mass Effect 2 on XBox.

I would like to play the upcoming Star Trek Online, but I doubt my PC -- though newer -- can handle the game. Can't really justify putting the money out in order to upgrade the computer on the basis of one game, no matter how cool it looks.

What gamer with a 360 isn't looking forward to Mass Effect 2? If it weren't for the first one I'd never even care about past Bioware games like KOTOR and Baulder's gate. is anyone else here going to buy Dragon Age Origins?

Yeah that pretty much me (Except without the Diablo part, I was never a PC gamer), although I do sometimes like mages cause you get to lay waste to the entire screen at once.

I was never a PC gamer

I *was* a PC gamer for about one year (Star Trek Elite Force 2 and Wolfenstein Enemy Territory) but then switched back to console gaming.

Honestly, I think console gaming is better. Less game updates, patches, map downloading, chances of viral infections. You open the game, insert the disc and boom - good to go and play.

Nod to Will on the Ace Combat series, best 20 bucks I ever spent on a video game, I've been trying to rationalize getting Ace 5 when games like Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead 2, Halo: ODST and Forza 3 are coming out. And I too am waiting for Mass Effect 2 Kansas, I'm building up my perfect level 60 Shepard to pass by the months.

As for Starcraft Strategy, I usually have patrolling Corsairs and a few stationary Carriers floating beyond the range of my cannons. Zerg Guardians are always my biggest problem, as I rarely see players trying to slowly push up with Siege Tanks. I'll let the enemy throw everything they've got and then swarm them with Carriers.

If I'm playing Terran (which i usually do just to mess around) I'll send in sacrificial marines to distract the enemy while i sneak in ghosts and nuke everything to oblivion. I never drop less then 3 at a time, and if your playing a map like Big Game Hunters expect 5 to 7 from me :P

And if it's Zerg (Which I cant play to save my life) It's a combination of Mutalisks, Guardians and Hydras. And Lurkers all over the map just to aggravate people.

I'm mostly a defensive/tactical player in RTS. If you're a good rusher you'll probably get me. :D

Go for it, Travis. It's got a really good storyline, wingman combat capabilities, split paths on several missions, and Kei Nagase- an anime babe in a flightsuit (who isn't over-developed).

I'm not exclusively a PC gamer. Although, PC gaming is still more popular in Europe than consoles; it's slowly changing, though. I'm not sure why that is, but yah, I got my consoles, too (XBox 360, Wii and PS 2 to be precise)

Dragon Age is definitely something I'll look at. I'll get Mass Effect 2 once I finish the first one... ah, so many good games so little time. I'm always a bit careful with games that get released around Christmas though, I've seen too many games that could have used another 3-6 months of developing that were released in time for Christmas. So, I tend to wait for feedback and buy them after Christmas.

New Super Mario Bros Wii is also on my list, for several reasons. 2D Mario jump'n runs have always been awesome (and I've played my first one on the NES), Nintendo doesn't do much wrong in its games (Zelda, Mario Kart, Super Mario Galaxy are all awesome games for Wii, although I realise that Zelda is only a port of the GC version), and its got a multiplayer.

I've been aching for Dragon age origins for over a year ever since I saw it in "Game informer" and prayed that the promise that it would on consoles stayed put (I've seen more then enough games go from "All platforms" to "Exclusive but not on your console" so I was actually fearing the release a little). But one thing about it is annoying me a little, everyone says that the PC version is better because of the controls, which include a camera that I'd almost NEVER use, and an action bar which I actually find a bit hard to keep track of, which are the ONLY differences that matter in the slightest.
