Question about a species

I've been watching Star Trek in it's various forms for years but I've wondered one thing for a while, "What is a Katarian?" In Generations, we see Kirk preparing Katarian Eggs for his girl, in Voyager, Nyomi Wildman is Half Katarian, but I cannot for the life of me ever remember seeing one in any of the shows. And I've searched Startrek.com and found nothing about them, but either way it's not really an urgent question, but I really would like to know about this race of people.
