Weighing the options

JJ had retreated to Stellar Cartography, pouring over map after map of 22nd century geopolitical star charts and interstellar traffic records around the time of the Khitomer Accords. Science had the task of finding a way home, while he was tasked with finding a way out of the Klingon Empire without ruining everything that was about to happen in the pages of Federation history, and becoming history themselves.

Finding a way out was trickier than originally expected. Traffic towards the borders was extremely heavy with the approaching conference. JJ had originally found a way out by way of the Azure Nebula, but it was quickly negated by the undocumented trek of the USS Excelsior, leaving him to look for other alternatives. There were not many options that seemed very attractive, to say the least. Even after departing Klingon space, there was still the prospect of finding a way back to their part of the timeline. If they couldn't do that, they would be forced to integrate themselves into this timeline, without stepping into the pages of history.

That was easier said than done for JJ. There had been no contact, officially or unofficially, between the Sovereignty and the Federation. Brythtons, in the eyes of the Federation, technically did not exist yet. It wasn't as simple as just flying back into the Sovereignty and re-integrating either. A lone Brythton did not just fly into the Sovereignty and quietly assimilate. Not with the peerage and records system they had in place. At the current time, his family held the title of Baron. If he were to fly back in with the mark of a Count, he, as well as the Lexi name would be ostracized from society. His only options would be to live amongst one of the non-Federation races the familiar with the Brythtons.

He quickly ruled out the Ferengi and Tholians. The Bajorans were an attractive option, but he knew he was only about 20 years away from the Occupation. The Cardassian Union was also an option, but their tastes for temperature and climate were much to warm for JJ's Brythton sensibilities. The Talarians were also an option, however, with their generally xenophobic nature, the Talarians logged and reported all Brythton refugees to the Sovereignty. That left really left only one option: the Tzenkethi. The relationship between the Autrarch and the Sovereignty had always been amicable. Plus, the Coalition had essentially become a haven for disenfranchised Brythtons.

Still, that option was far from a reality, there still was a chance to find their way home. But at least it was good to know that there were some options out there.
