Xandra

Some would call it narcissism

Xandra walked into her quarters , quickly making sure no one was hiding in one of the corners of her tiny cabin. Once upon a time she would have laughed at such a display of sheer paranoia , but these days she knew better .Satisfied that she was indeed alone, she pulled the pins out of her hair, letting it cascade over her shoulders . After removing the blade she was now used to carrying around all day from her waist belt she laid it down carefully on a small making sure it was still within arm’s reach

The doctor sat down on the hard , uncomfortable cot she called her bed. Her body was craving a hot bath, a stiff drink and a long night of sleep in a soft bed. She let out a bitter chuckle “ I can’t see that happening anytime soon” Her fingers wrapped around the base of her own neck , trying to relax the stiff muscles; side effect of adrenaline rush. And adrenaline was one thing that was definitely not missing from her life since she “joined” this crew. There was a grin on her face as she recalled the close call they had earlier with the science vessel and the mysterious Klingon ship. Xandra enjoyed not being confined in a sterile sickbay waiting and missing all the action . She was looking forward to the rest of this Goldrock job, more than she was willing to admit. She closed her eyes for a moment , thinking .

To most this would be a living hell but Xandra grew to appreciate her new life, even if it did lack the little things that made life easier. At least there was no one always looking over her shoulder , endless reports, no more stuffy shapeless uniforms in which she felt ugly . She opened her eyes and looked up to the mirror on the wall . She spent the last months eating food that no human should ever have to , taking cold showers and sleeping with an eye open every night. But in her eyes, the reflection looking back at her in the mirror had never been more beautiful , she felt and looked … alive. Xandra smiled at herself, it wasn’t vanity. She didn’t care much for vain people, but she always took care of herself. A mean to an end. People, males especially, were so easily distracted around beautiful people, letting their guards down . Xandra learned at an early age to take advantage of that . It served her well, and by the looks of it , it would continue to do so . Why get your hands dirty , when you can get someone to volunteer to do it for you? She grinned, toying with people was so much fun, Especially when they don’t even realized they’re being played. And a shipfull of pirates and mercenaries was no different. Her only annoyance lately was the fact that she sensed that Mench could see right through all her smoke and mirrors. Wise man …. “ Oh well , I always liked a challenge” Xandra thought before getting up. Her stomach was growling , and as much as the thought of eating more of the … things the Klingons dared call food ,repulsed her , Xandra knew she needed sustenance . She quickly pinned her long hair back up before grabbing the blade she had left on the table. Before leaving her quarters, she took one last look at her reflection in the mirror. She walked the dark corridor a faint hint of that wicked smile still on her face. Well if this was indeed hell then …. Life was good in hell .
