That's a little tougher to do.  But hey...  this is a spot for suggestions.  So I'll see what I can do.  (Though it may come down to waiting for the next PHP release that I'm helping with.  That's still a bit off though)

Huff posts:

First, the navigation bar at the top "home, about us, blah blah blah" would be great if it were a little bit bigger.  I didn't realize it was there for the longest time, lol.  I also think including "getting started" with the "help" button text would be good.

 

I've played around with different sizes...  the problem we run into though is that it did not fit well on all resolutions.  ESPECIALLY when viewed from within AOL on an 800x600 resolution.  (AOL does not use the full width of the monitor.  By default, their browser uses only about 70 percent of the window.  That leaves me with about 420 pixels to play around with....  :D

 

I'm still working on a few ideas for navigation though....  I'm not giving up on it yet.

 

I think it would be very useful if we had simple short descriptions of our advanced ships in an easy-to-find place.  I know we have all the ship website links, but I think it would be very convenient for new ensigns or curious cadets to have all the ship descriptions on one page, one click.  I'm not sure if it would be too crowded on the schedule page, or would be better on its own page.  

I've liked this idea for quite a while.  I've wanted to do something with a seperate "guide" about each of our sims since I launched the first design.  I just have not done much with it yet.  A couple of players have actually approached me about this...  but so far nothing has happened with it.  

 

So if you're interested in this, please feel free to start contacting GMs, etc and gathering this info.  We need to come up with kind of a "template" of questions to ask...  such as sim name, time, command staff, era, type of missions, brief history, what makes this sim stand out, etc.

 

But it's something that would definately have to go in a seperate section.  There's no way this would fit into the schedule.  (I'd like to keep it as simple and uncluttered as possible.)

LOL...  When I first put this board up many many moons ago....  I did not think anyone would be interested in that, and removed it from the skin.  

 

I'll play around with it more trying to find a good spot and good way to add it back.  :D

How about putting a Members button that goes to a page listing off all the message board members? Can't seem to see one.

Well, you have to remember that we don't control the resources at Paramount's website and there is no clean way to get straight into the rooms there.  Remember that you have "log in" at StarTrek.com to get your account active first and then you have to get the PeopleLink software to kick up and running.  Also, Paramount cannot get the correct stats on numbers of visitors to their site, if we found a way straight into the rooms.  We want to keep Paramount happy with STSF, now don't we!!!?

I have a way into the chats bookmarked on my comp, when you click on the the RR and HD when logged in, the address at the top is your specific account login for the room you entered, I label them "Ensign Bokrah - Ready room" and so on

The only problem though is we can't link it that way to our website.  :P  The links have to work for everyone regardless if they have not signed up for a Startrek.com account, or if they're already logged in, or what.  

 

I'm pretty good with getting tools to work and such...  but I'm not THAT good.  (Besides, I'm doing all of this without technical assistance from Paramount or PeopleLink, lol.)

 

I'm always exploring new options for enhancing the website and such...  but I also do this in my spare time in between a job, having a family, being involved with a church, teaching a radio production class at a local university, mentoring new freshman, and also providing tech support for Ikonboard and another online web hosting company.  ::):  So even though I am not around as much as I would like to be, I still do try to keep an eye on things and try to make improvements as I can.

One idea to get Paramount to make it easier and Mac friendly could be to collect a number of names of people, after checking with them first, conveying they difficulty of the navigation to the rooms there and to include the Mac-Unfriendly interface.
