To read a book. . .

JJ didn't know how long exactly the technology to control temperature had been around, but he was sure that he had been taking it for granted a majority of his life. It wasn't until he made it to Earth when he really began to really appreciate it. Luckily for him, Starfleet saw fit to room him with an Andorian, allowing him to keep his room at a reasonable temperature.

He laid down on his bed, picking up the book which lay on his nightstand. It was a human book, one recommended to him by his human delta shift counterpart, Ensign Diaz. It was called The Brothers Karamazov, by a human author by the name of Fyodor Dostoevsky.

Diaz had explained to JJ that it was one of the most important works of literature during Earth's 19th and 20th centuries. He had said that it was a 'captivating look into the minds of pre-World War III humanity.' Not knowing much about human culture, JJ decided to read the book. After all, we was going to spend the next portion of his life living amongst humans, he might as well take the time to learn where they came from and how they had come to be the fascinating species that they are today.

He opened the novel and began to read. . .

"Book One" he murmured aloud. "The history of a family. . ."
