A Dear John Letter

My Dear Sweet Johnny,

I trust you are finding your return to Challenger is still great posting. I don't know why Star Fleet keeps the assignment I got so secret, but I guess if people knew you were going to be in Personnel, the vacuum of space wouldn't compare to how people would treat you! I'm loving this job in Personnel, reviewing appeal requests. Guess I got it, seeing as I'll be going on a deep space mission soon, and that's why I got this posting. This way nepotism doesn't rear it's ugly head!

It was wonderful going to dinner with you while you were here during your recent training here on Earth, and relating how much you liked getting into fighters and how much like and un-like it is to your Citabria. I hope you recall our discussion about your previous time in grade as a Lt. Jg. would be handled, if and when you earn it back. I think it will be! Remember, it is not something written, so a formal appeal does not apply. It is traditional for an officer who had been demoted for an oversight such as his not reporting on time to be have his time in grade be bridged together, depending on how his First Officer felt about it, especially if he took on some significant development training.

I'm glad you took it to heart. Besides your training to fly fighters, undertaking a course in Tactical officer training should be quite impressive. And you did quite well in it, too! I don't know what you're XO is doing with you, but you're really maturing into a fine officer. I can tell that your Navigation officer, a Ms. Reed I believe, was responsible for some of this motivation. I think your days of barnstorming from one relationship to another are over!

I'll probably be out of range when you get this. Our mission is to the Beta quadrant on a five year mission to explore those new worlds and cultures we come across. While I truly felt something special exists between us, don't stop your relationship with Ms. Reed for me. The reality is I may never come back. I know you can find true happiness with her, in whatever form your relationship with her becomes.

Yours in Service,

Shawna Warren

Lt., Psychologist
