Vilanne

Making COMmunication

[[Joint Jaiysa/Vilanne Log]] Vilanne went to her room after saying good night to Eva, but was rather worried about Jaiysa since she'd not seen her for a few hours. She located her communicator badge and tapped it, "Vilanne to Dr t'Tamarak" then waited for any response.

She sat on the bed in her plush suite, listening and waiting for a response while contemplating how to get Jaiysa to do the shopping thing the next day. She tapped again, "Dr Chalice to Dr t'Tamarak, are you there?"

Jaiysa snapped awake at the sound of her name, her dark eyes flicking around quickly, getting her bearings in the room where she lay before identifying it as the quarters which she had been assigned aboard the USS Manticore. Her brain was slightly sluggish in its response; though Jaiysa was not inexperienced in holding good alcohol, Vilanne had talked her into one or two too many drinks the night before and it was showing. For a moment she wasn't sure what had awoken her until the second COM came through, the voice issuing from the small badge attached to the tunic she had haphazardly thrown over a chair back upon her return to the ship. "t'Tamarak here..." she muttered a little blearily, rolling out of bed and pulling to her feet with the straightest bearing she could muster.

"I'm sorry there, Jaiysa, did I wake you up? I was just about to go to bed. Were you going to return to the room?" Vilanne blushed for a moment, then interjected, "I'm not interrupting, am I?" as she let out a soft giggle.

Jaiysa resisted the urge to groan with frustration. "Nothing except an attempt at a night's sleep. I'm back aboard the Manticore. Did you need something or is this a social call?"

Vilanne's happy-go-expression immediately changed, "Back? On the Manti? Jaiysa, we are on shoreleave... I was hoping... " where she broke the COM and considered that Jaiysa had a life of her own she was creating.

Jaiysa listened to the silence stretching over the COM for about half a minute before saying tiredly, "You were hoping what, rekhinu?"

Her saddened tone was clear, but she tried to sound unchanged, "I had hoped to go shopping with you, show you a well-known custom of the lloann'na women. I didn't know you were returning to the ship."

Jaiysa's eyes narrowed slightly, hearing the pleading tone in Vilanne's voice on the other end of the line. Another of the human woman's attempts to establish a rapport or bond or some such, which Jaiysa was still entirely unprepared to know how to deal with. "I do not need to buy anything, and given my circumstances, my current level of credit is rather...lacking," she responded after a moment. This argument would not work, she knew that already, but she supposed it was worth a try.

After a lengthy pause, where Vilanne moved between the sheets and laid down onto the soft pillow, she closed her eyes. She thought about her response, knowing it was going to be balked at, if I say "come shop anyway" she'll just say no... if I say "I want you to shop with me" ... She tapped the COM again, "Jaiysa, I'd love to do this with you. It's a Lloann'na tradition for women to shop together, even if they aren't purchasing anything. If you could find the time, I'd really like your company."

Jaiysa was silent for a long time. She could hear Vilanne's hopeful tone and yet again was struck by the amount of genuine enthusiasm the doctor seemed to bring to their interactions. She didn't understand it. She didn't want it; it made her profoundly uncomfortable -- she needed to settle herself among this crew but that didn't make Vil's easy trust make any more sense to her. "I'm sure Doctor Jaz will provide you with adequate company," she said abruptly. "I have work to complete."

Jaiysa scowled as the COM's line shut off on Vilanne's defeated tone, quickly crossing the room and almost slapping the commbadge to close the channel from her end. She didn't need help being made to feel guilty; that wasn't something she wanted to hear from Vilanne right now. Especially not at...she paused and glanced at the chronometer...oh, Elements, 0430... "Hta'Dva fvaaaadt..." she muttered, dropping back into the bed with a groan. She would worry about this in the morning.
