Is Says Ensign On My Uniform

Start Data Entry,

Leon Hawke's Personal Log (Narrative Form),

U.S.S. Republic

I was told to wait in my quarters until called for by the Admiral. Since I had received my posting on the U.S.S. Republic, I was ecstatic; One might think I knew everything there was to know about the Republic, but it was because I knew almost nothing about it that made me so excited. Starfleet didn't have much information publicly available about the Galaxy-Class vessel, and I knew that screamed 'classified'. Though my scores were fairly high in the Sciences at the Academy, the quickest way to get on a ship like that was through a Security posting. My Dad gave me a decent upbringing in tactics and weapons as a Starfleet security officer himself; besides, I was okay in a fight. And that's what I applied for, and sure enough, here I am. Since the transport I know very little about what has been going on. From the ship's roster I could see I will eventually report to Lieutenant Commander Robinson. Not exactly the Science posting I was hoping for, but I'll take what I can get. Maybe in a year or two I could get a transfer to that department. If I survive that long. I know all too well Security is one of the most dangerous departments.

The call from the Bridge came after what seemed like a forever of waiting. I responded with a standard 'aye', and made my way to the turbolift. The ride to the Bridge was relatively short, and the doors opened. I looked around, awestruck for several seconds. Of course I had been in simulations with Galaxy Class starships, but for some reason, it was nothing like what I was feeling at that exact moment. I looked around for the Admiral. I gave my status to the Admiral as...confidently as possible. The last thing I needed in the company of high ranking officers was to appear scared or timid. The Caitian Admiral turned around and welcomed me to the ship, and made note of my Ensign status. Then to my surprise, she asked me about my Sciences background. I suppose I had just never thought that I would be dealing with the CO of the Republic about my posting. I was offered my Science post on the spot. Trying not to let my disbelief and joy show, I happily accepted the position. The Admiral informed me of my new Department Head, Lieutenant Commander Joy. I was then instructed to go give her a hand in the Astrometrics Lab (with what, I have no idea). Before I left, Captain Ace caught my attention. She welcomed me on board as well, and mentioned an 'open door policy'. I was glad that the command crew was so friendly; Hopefully this would be an easy transition. At that point Admiral BluRox told Captain Ace that "I should help Joy destroy that probe, before the wormhole might open". I didn't have a clue what I had just walked in to, but I loved it. I was told to visit Sickbay for a checkup, and dismissed.

Not being wildly familiar with the location of Astrometrics in relation to the Bridge, I asked the computer for help. It lit up a path, and I embarked to meet my new Chief. On my way, the klaxon sirens of 'yellow alert' went off. I hurriedly rushed to Astrometrics; not quite sure what I could do to help, but maybe I could be useful. Arriving at my destination, I could see the Lt. Commander working very hard and rushed. I greeted her, and offered any assistance. She gave me a order that would get me court-martialed if I followed through; I'll take it as sarcasm for the time being. For the moment, I'll stay out of Joy's way. I had really wished I had access to Commander Joy's reports a half hour ago; I might have had a clue how to be of some use...
