T'Prise

Considerations

T’Prise’s fingers moved deftly across her workstation console as she drafted her report on Echococcosis. Concentrating on her duties helped her to focus, something she had been struggling with as a result of her current inability to meditate, an inability which she supposed was brought on by the combined stresses of the accident aboard the Wanderlust and the head injury sustained when the Manticore had collided with the other starship upon returning from the Andromeda Galaxy. However, as they were currently far from Vulcan and she could not request a leave of absence to seek appropriate treatment and therapy, the logical course of action was to find other outlets which would bring her the serenity she usually obtained from meditative practices.

Looking up, she saw Escher and Syndrx conferring over the design schemas and technical reports for their new bioarmor. The creation was an impressive accomplishment, and if they were able to implement the design aboard the Manticore, it would increase the ship’s shielding capabilities considerably. Her colleagues aboard this ship were talented and capable individuals, and their working rapport had developed nicely. Glancing at her department head pensively, she considered their earlier conversation regarding her research.

Escher’s had suggested telling the other crew members about her research and inviting them to help complete the project, and the idea did have merit. Syndrx had proved his technical aptitude time and again and would be very useful in the construction of a prototype. Despite his protestations to the contrary, Escher’s input on the project had so far been invaluable. And while she did not know anything regarding Morran or Macen’s understanding of quantum physics, it had been her experience that even a novice could provide useful insight into a project.

However, thoughts of perhaps sharing her research with her colleagues were tempered by the unknown quantities which seemed to hang over the Peregrination Project. The events surrounding the destruction of the Wanderlust had left her wary. Given everything that had occurred, the probability that it could all be attributed to coincidence was suspiciously low, suggesting that she should proceed with caution. While she had come to respect and acknowledge many of the Manticore crew members, like Commander Farrington, Lieutenant Commander Mizu, and Dr. Chalice, as competent officers, many of the others were still of the unknown. Until she could determine the nature of those events surrounding the project, she could not allow the research to continue. Another disaster would be unacceptable.
