Time table

Hello you probably don't know me i have been in the academy couple of times and i have a concern about the schedule is there a chance to press a fancy link with the Greek flag and all come in Greek settings i am willing to design the page and configure the tables if the gms allow me to do it

I can copy the code via chrome edit the times in notepad and send it via e mail to you in html format to upload

Hello, Greek. Yes, I've seen you in the European Academy on Sundays.

Not sure what you are asking us to do. Could you be more specific?

Hi,

I'm also a bit confused about what you're asking for. Are you asking for us to have an automatic time zone conversion button on the schedule page?

Hi,

He's asking for our pages to be in Greek, like other websites which allow multiple language versions. Not a bad idea at first but since the sims are at the core of what we do and as far as I know we don't have any Greek speaking GM's it might be misleading to advertise in any language outside those spoken by a team of GM's and enough players to support a sim or academy sim.

Seeing as one should always have a plan for world domination handy though, it would be great to have multiple optional languages the site can be viewed in. But I don't see it happening right away.

Thank you Jorahl that was exactly what i was saying i also stated that i am willing to modify the page my self and all you have to do is add the link to the original leading to the Greek. I have been in other websites and even when the gm s didn't know the language there was a layout at least at the starting page. Now days in web i am sure you know it active members of any site are encouraged to make a difference and i am sorry that someone from an other country cant do it for his own reasons but i am here with a hole sumer having to do nothing. I could use 2-3 hours to make a Greek layout and who knows maybe after that more players from Greece may join

Being a non-native speaker of English as well here's what I think about it.

Firstly, I don't think there are enough non-native speakers around to make it worth the effort, but if someone were willing to do all the work, it's not really the biggest concern.

Secondly, as the simulations are all in English anyway you'll have a problem following those if you don't even understand the content of the site in English. I had only ever watched Star Trek shows and films in German when I joined, reading things in English helped me a lot with specific vocab and it's not hard to translate, really.

Thirdly, if you want to translate something you have to make sure to have a near native or native command of both languages, because otherwise it'll just go horribly wrong (trust me, you wouldn't believe some of the things I've seen).

Furthermore, if you only want to translate the schedule page, I'm not sure what's to translate.

Lastly, if there are no Greek speaking GMs, as Jorahl said, there's really nobody who can check either the content or quality of the Greek site.

My main concern when i was writing this was the time table not the text anyway i was just ofeering somethink if you think its unneseserly i can just build a table in exel with my time and dates but that would be selfish i just wanted to share a work i allready have done to the rest.

Ok, here are my 2 cents...

So long as it is made clear in any other language settings you can choose, that all the simulations are done in english, I personally think that having a time table or something in different languages would be fine, but I do agree with Damian, that there really aren't any GMs here fluent in greek (if there are, my apologies) and no one would really be able to take a look at the quality, and to make sure that the whole thing is compatible with STSFs site. Also, with a greek time table, it would more or less be expected by some or many to have some in other languages too, like French, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, ect, and I really don't know if many of the people fluent in other languages here have that much time to contribute to something like that. Its a great idea, but in the grand scheme, it might not work so well...

Ok, 2 cent givings from me... off.

Thanks for the offer, but I think the most universally (okay, globally) useful addition might be to add the GMT to our Schedule page, so that people can use that as a reference in whatever country they are in. One concern would be when we change our US times by one hour for Daylight Savings Time, does every country make that change?

Not every country (hell, not even all States and Canadian Provinces) use it. However, all of Europe (save Iceland), Russia, most of the United States and Canada, and parts of the Middle East use it. For more information: Daylight Savings Time around the World on Wikipedia

The problem with daylight savings time is that it doesn't start and end at the same time.

Which is quite true. It starts about a month earlier in the States than in Europe.
