Anyone do any costuming?

So I was just wondering if anyone else here does costuming, for cons or otherwise. I've dipped my toe in the oh-so-addicting waters and found that I love it. I'm collecting resources right now for at least a couple costumes... anyone else?

I've painted my wife green for ShoreLeave one time. Camo paint works good for that. Otherwise, no.

You can probably check out the message boards for some of the fan films out there for tips.

I usually just convert old camis into SF tactical uniforms.

I ordered a fan-made design custom-made off a site recently and was in the long run rather disappointed; they missed a fair number of details and the cut seems to have little to do with the dimensions I specified. No doubt this was because I specified "standard" rather than "premium" quality. Fact: If you're going to buy, it's going to cost a lot more than I was willing to shell out. :(

Being an epic fail at more domestic stuff, I have not yet had the guts to attempt to make my own, so if that's what you're planning on do keep us apprised of how it works out! :) That's pretty cool. (Maybe I'll commission you! ^_^ )

Whenever I costume, I go to a discount store (Good Will, Army Surplus) and pick up a bunch of stuff. Then I use that to do whatever.

I actually hacked together some rough uniforms for a video project recently. V-neck sweater on top of a black t-shirt for the collar effect, with insignia made of duct tape. Looked far better than I thought it would, that's for sure.

I certainly don't have the money to buy a completed costume, so yeah, I'll be either making mine from scratch or modifying some bought things. :(

DarkMonkey: that's cool! It's surprising the things you can get away with in videos. ^_^

Yeah, but again with the money issue. I found some parts of what I want on Ebay for cheap, and I'm... umm.... borrowing, yeah, borrowing the Goodwill idea. Or I will be at the end of the month.
