Awesome. You'll have your copy, and I'll be getting mine as the Little Furball suggested. Once we both compare viewer notes, we'll have the 'Creek crew skydive off an orbital playform, Commander Wesley.

Hello (I'm sorry if this thread is considered too dead), I saw that movie and I loved it, although I do have two MAJOR gripes with it. Firstly with Uhura I felt like they took one of the most influencial women in TV history, and simply dumbed her down for straight up sex appeal. Secondly, Spock and Uhura hooked up, are you ****ing kidding me?!?!?! I'm all for taking a series in a new direction (As long as the do it well of course), but that was just a bit much if you ask me.

I seen your post on here and have to reply out of character obviously, but I need to reply.

I wanted to let you know that I feel the same way you do about the movie. I loved the movie. Scotty was spectacular! he never really caught my eye in TOS but loved him in this new movie. Chekhov, racing to the transporter room was also the best thing I have ever seen for that character. I loved it! Bones and Kirk were perfect! and Ill accept Spock - but no one in the world could replace Nimoy in my eyes for Spock.

as for the Uhura thing (I wanted to die) when she chased Spock into the Turbo Lift and was talking to him the only thing going through my head was. lady he is Vulcan! Is there a reason you are trying to pry his emotions out of him, let him deal with them and move past them how he was taught to do, stop bothering him!

then when they were on the transporter pad and Spock was kissing her I about fell over. my thought was pretty much expressed my Kirks face! what in the **** is happening!

Ok now I feel better that I have expressed that! I have wanted to since I joined STSF and your post drug it out of me

sorry to rant and rave like a crazy person.

but I do feel better now.

bwt

enjoy it here. Its great.

The Spock/Uhuru romance thing has been done before, and is one of many topics explored throughout this thread:

Touched on briefly in the 1st season Original Series episode Charlie X.

It was an off duty lounge scene, Uhuru was singing and teasing him, he was smirking -- yes, smirking, TOS Spock was actually showing emotion -- and the impression was that the two had some sort of past chemistry/romantic leanings. Any hinted at Uhuru/Spock romantic chemistry was dropped for the remainder of the series, obviously, along with any noticeable future slips into emotion for Spock.

DVD extras confirm:

I *think* during either Quinto's introduction or Saldana's (Casting), there is a voiceover that confirms -- I'm paraphrasing here -- the Spock/Uhuru characters are exploring a past path never taken with the two Trek characters. In other words, a revisit to Charlie X expanded.

Mister Loverboy:

Of course Kirk was staring at Uhuru and Spock kissing on the platform...this guy is used to getting all the girls! He hit on her in the bar scene. He kept trying to get her to tell him her first name. He, ah, had relations we assume with her roommate. Mister Loverboy is prolly shocked Uhuru went for Spock instead of him! ;)

**SPOILERS**

Anyone catch the Rura Penthe excerpt among the deleted scenes?

The helmets that that Klingon guards sport remind me of the Predator helmets from Predator/Aliens vs. Predator movies.

Kansas,

yes I know about the situation in Charlie X and I kept telling myself that. I think its the only way to except it.

but the movie was great, I cant wait for the next one!

Kirk is just shameless about that, I mean is there nothing he won't hit on? But really I have never seen anything in a movie that suprised me more then that. Oh and Karl Urban as Bones was so perfect that it nearly overshadowed everyone else.

No you really can't, I mean who doesn't love Vulcans? Most of them are one soft english accent away from being Elves (From space).

Uhura was after Spock a couple of times. The first was "Man Trap", where she was trying to make light conversation which ended badly. The second was her routine in "Charlie X", which was met with bemusement.

Spock was always respectful, and notably admired the Leutenant's ability in "Who Mourns for Adonais?". As for romantic inclinations, however, Spock always had a certain aura of inpenetrability which faltered only three times: "The Paradise Syndrome", "Amok Time", and "The Cloud Miners".

The Uhura/Spock romance thing was unnecessary and in some ways repugnant. It's not that I'm *against* such things ... but there's a whole world of plot and build-up that could have been done there. One might almost say that there was a story that could've been told, assuming one planned two or three movies or a book franchise.

Instead it seemed that Abrams was just in a complete rush to get the two of them together rather than letting such a potentially complicated relationship grow and develop, naturally or otherwise. If he had to blow up a planet or two along the way, so much the better. It's not as if anyone really watches a movie for storyline anymore, or actually wants the good guys to win without catastrophic destruction along the way.

I guess I'm completely out of sync with movies these days. Such a pity ... or maybe not.

How it Should Have Ended (Google it) has posted a hilarious version of how they think the recent Star Trek movie should have ended. ;)

Everyone says that it's a prequel to TOS, but I think because Spock and Uhura get the hots for eachother and Spock's mom is killed, it's more like an alternate reality where Spock from TOS accidentally goes back in time with the Romulan ship and creates paradoxes that change the Star Trek timeline a lot. So I like to think of it as more of a sequel to TOS and the previous movies. Fascinating :)

Mmm'kay. According to Haynes Publishing's 2010 catalog, they're doing the USS Enterprise Owner's Workshop Manual 2151 Onwards (NX-01, 1701, and 1701-A through E) (pulled from the PDF catalogue), with Technical Consultant Mke Okuda. Doesn't say if it's going to have XI's Enterprise, but probably not.

Damnit, I want a Kelvin source manual. That ship's a kitbasher's dream come true.
