Cmdr JFarrington

Through the Looking Glass

Counselor’s Log

Cmdr JFarrington, MD

USS Manticore NCC-5852

On Romulus

"Through the Looking Glass"

Cmdr Jami Farrington watched the crew as they assisted in the science laboratory on Romulus, most of them working on the Echococcosis plague to find a cure. To Jami, a life was a life, be it friend or foe, and what happened in this laboratory held many Romulan lives in the balance. The science and medical teams, as well as many engineers, had thrown their full weight into the task at hand, but some of the others?

As she watched, she wondered whether some of this crew should not have been left behind. The problem would have been the danger of paring down the crew. The Romulan science team was expecting a certain number of Federation scientists to appear and the operation of a Romulan scout ship required a certain number of crew. It followed, then, that a certain number of crew from Manticore replace the special ops team that were supposed to man the scout ship so brows would not be raised when it landed. In essence, they had had little choice.

In one area of the lab Cmdr Garnoopy and his team were not only looking busy, they were taking mental stock of Romulan technology and using their engineering expertise to help Manticore’s team translate and/or decipher the workings of Romulan equipment.

At the entrance, the Romulan supervisor, t’Bone, had placed a guard. “You keep out of their way, and you protect them,” he had said to t’Goon. “And if you see anything suspicious, report it to me.” Though Jami expected it, t’Bone’s last comment troubled her. She strode through the facility, doing her best to ignore the nonsensical goings-on and trying to play the part of a Romulan supervising officer – which part, she would be the first to admit, probably came off as very awkward.

Not long afterward, with tension mounting and the walls of the science lab closing in, Kansas and Doug started going at it over… something. Soon Jami spied LtCmdr Faldek, posturing, fairly begging t’Goon for a fight – something they really didn’t need at the moment. Though it would have been in character for a Romulan to question someone’s intentions towards a potential mate, it seemed odd to Jami that Faldek would take such a step, especially considering his often-voiced fear of discovery, which would lead to a slow, painful death. That led her to question whether Faldek had a death wish, which made her wonder all the more about bringing him along in the first place. But it couldn’t be helped now. He was here. They all were here. And the likelihood of getting out of here alive, not to mention going home, were getting slimmer and slimmer.
