Trek on CSI

OMG

I was told about an episode of CSI that I "had" to watch and now that I have, I gotta spead the love, it's amazing!

Go to cbs.com and look up CSI, find and watch an episode called "A Space Oddity," it focuses on a murder at a convention for an old 60's show called Astro Quest. The Commander of the old show has the big 60's hair, a ripped tunic and blood dripping from the corner of his mouth! His Yeoman has a giant bouffant hairdo and his Bridge assistant has weird ears (they droop down, instead of point up). It makes direct fun of TOS episodes "Gamesters of Triskeleon" and "The Menagerie"/the original pilot. It even has an angry con mob screen with Ronald Moore and Grace Park in it. It is great fun (aimed at the TOS fans, by the way).

Have fun!

I saw that episode last Thursday right before the Reaent sim. I laughed a lot.

Ron Moore and company didn't hurt any either. I thought it was handled quite well....something of a tribute to both Trek and BSG. And perfect timing what with the movie coming out in a couple of weeks.

Did I mention that I laughed a lot. It was great fun. Go to CBS.com and take a look for yourselves

Well, that's not right. CBS is buying Canadian TV shows [Love Flashpoint!] to air left and right, the least they can do is make ours available in return.

i hate that screen... the best i can ever do is try and string together clips loaded on youtube much-much later on, and hope i can watch them before they are removed by cease and desist orders. i've been watching ds9 reruns that way.

I have not watched the show yet (at the time of the original run, it was the Thurs. Acad), but regular updates on the action were being called out to me by a Parental Unit.

My favorite update was this: one of the CSI team was sent out to question some suspects/witnesses/informants. The CSI person had to place thier hand on some sort of device outside the door in order to be allowed access to the bedroom, the bedroom was completely decorated in sci fi, and the two guys/nerds were of course playing video games.

To quote my Mother: "You know, that's not nice. Trek fans are always shown as weird."

Yes. Yes *those* people are. :-P

Oh, Kitteh, you GOTTA see it. I watched it last night on CBS.com, and O...mg. It was soooo close to home.

And those guys weren't actually playing video games. When their mom, or housekeeper, or whoever it was let the CSI team in, one stood up and shouted, "NOT NOW! We're debriefing!"

And the fantasy sequences? Oh yeah, gotta watch!

Oh yea.. Acutally watched it that night and it was a great show.. The Lady in question was MOM. As she opened the door. "He's in his room, where else?" and yes she had to put her hand on a palm reading device to open said door to the bedroom/command center.

Just an fyi - if you have On Demand, you can access the program under TV Series, CBS, CSI. Watched it this evening.

And since we are talking about Trek on non-Trek shows, there is also Family Guy that had a recent episode called "Not All Dogs Go To Heaven," (available on Hulu). In it, there are the cartoon versions of the cast of TNG with all of the actual actors providing voices, it is quite amazing to hear them snipping with each other about the show, very funny!

Finally checked it out via On Demand. It truly was a cute and well done episode, and it was awesome.

When the coroners assistant started ripping the McCoy one liners, I was in heaven. But, I went on a giggling jag when Ron Moore stood up in the camera frame at the con and yelled "You s*ck!" at the producer guy. That was so appropriate for him to start the complaints because the "Astro Quest Redux" was totally the Battlestar Galactica redux that he himself did! Nice tie in!

And the fantasy sequences were great with the fake toupee. And when that girl stated yelling at the nerd guys that "this isn't real! we aren't really on a ship!" the one dude all recoiled in shock and horror.

So much good stuff involved, and yet they still had a pretty good storyline integrating it all! I found the Afghan tour of duty soldier turned bartender with the facial scarring rather interesting as well, what with him using the scars to dress up in costume as he did.

A little chime in on Trek on the web. In case you didn't know, most (all?) of TOS episodes are available for free streaming in CBS.com. Too bad that's the only series up there.

They're also on youTube. And I think it's most. Whilst they have the episodes "Patterns Of Force" and the "Enterprise Incident", they don't have "Balance of Terror" ;)

And how many BSG actors did you see in the crowd at the con, not to mention Kate Vernon (Ellen Tigh) playing a lead role?

::chuckle::

It was awesome to see Kate Vernon as a lead role! And the only BSGer I spotted in the crowed was Grace Park; I didn't recognize anyone else if they were there.

On another note - I kinda liked the Astro Quest uniforms. :-)

Oh, those uniforms were so cool Doc Matthews!

The costume designers had the boots down, the trousers, even the correct cut and length of the classic TOS uniform tunic top. And the black piping/design pattern of the Astro tunics looked pretty classy and it was a nice modern "update" with not making them full on TOS tunic uni tops.

And the running gag with the Captain's tunic being ripped at the chest no matter what the flashback was? So appropriate.

I'm glad you lot started chatting up the episode, or else I'd've had no idea what I had missed out on. CSI might not be Galaxy Quest, but it's darn sure right up there as a quality homage piece to TOS.
