Spam recovery method

Greetings all,

With recent spam attacks, I did a little research. In turns out there is a way to recover from a chat room spam attack without leaving the room. This will allow the chat room to restart itself without the user needing to leave the room.

Basically, what the procedure entails is this. After a spam attack, and the attacker has been muted/removed, you should press okay until eventually the Java Chat Room error box goes away. This will then result in the famous seeing blank lines of text. At this point, type a period and then press enter. Do so about 5/6 times. Around the 7th time, like magic, chat room text should start to appear.

I would personally suggest trying to spread the word about this to friends and fellow gamers. It isn't perfect, as it is possible the chat room will have a technical problem a few minutes after this quickfix, but that depends on an individual's computer.

Confused? The below would be a sample chat log of what would appear on screen if you were using the above:

'Ya know, Fred... I tried this tactic a few weeks ago during a sim that was spammed, and it didn't work.

Just thought that I'd throw that out.

Hey there,

And at the same time I had someone tell me they used it earlier this week and it worked. I don't know how the trick works since PeopleLink's update to the chat applet in late June.

Actually, fighting fires by setting smaller fires in the path of the main fire (thus depriving the main fire of fuel) is a very common forrest fire technique.
