Trichon

Message From Home

The ringing in his quarters was non stop.  Trichon grabbed his bathrobe and put it on and headed to the panel.  "Yes, what is it?"  "You have an incoming transmission from the Tycho Colony," the computer replied.

"Put it through."  The video panel came to life and a man he had never seen appeared on the view screen.

"Are you Trichon Light?" the man asked a sullen tone in his voice.

"Yes, And who might you be?"

"Ah good.  My name is Harlan Clay.  I am the head of security in the Tycho lunar colony.  I have some bad news for you son."

Trichon stared at the man and waited for him to continue.  "Go ahead."

"Well, I was a friend of your father.  We would get together and have dinner once a week.  Ever since Eleanor passed away 2 years ago well your father just wasn't the same.  I still went over for dinner once a week but the light in his eyes had just gone away.  Well, I was going over to the house for dinner last night and when I knocked Gary didn't answer the door.  I went in and...."  Harlan trailed off and started pause.  "... He was lying on the floor dead.  I called the doctors and they said there was nothing they could do.  He died of a heart failure.  I am sorry."

Trichon stared at the screen for a moment.  "I see Mr. Clay.  I appreciate you letting me know.  Was there anything else you needed."

"Yes, Your father had a message recorded for you.  He left me a note letting me know how to get ahold of you and to make sure you got it.  I am going to send it to you now.  I just want to let you know your father was a good man.  I am going to miss him."

"Thank you Mr. Clay.  Thank you again,"  the screen blinked off and the file started to transmit.  When it was done Trichon looked at the screen.  "Computer.  Play message"

The screen came to life and the image on it was of Trichon's father.  "Hello son.  If you are getting this message then it must mean I am dead.  I feel that as my life is coming to its close that I must tell you some things son.  First off I have not been a very good father to you.  I have kept secrets from you all your life about who you are.  Those secrets end now.  Trichon, son I am over 300 years old.  I am an El-Aurian.  I came to earth with my first wife Sara aboard a refuge ship after the Borg destroyed our world.  The Lacul ran into an energy disturbance called the Nexus.  We couldnt break free of it.  The ship was breaking up and I was ready to die with my wife when I was ripped from her by Starfleet.  I had been rescued by the Enterprise.  I was among the few that survived.  My wife did not.  I was furious.  I wanted to go back and die with her.  They would not let me. That is why I hate Starfleet the way I do.  They rescued me but not her.  I could never forgive them for that.  I decided to get on with my life the best I could. I settled in Tycho City and started my life over again.  It wasn't until 20 years later I met your mother.  Eleanor.  We had a good life.  It was even better the day you were born son.  You see I never thought me and your mother could have children.  I did not believe that a El-Aurian and a human would be able to conceive a child.  And then you were born.  Me and your Mother decided it was best we not tell you until you were old enough to understand.  After you left us and then your mother died.  I have decided I cannot go on.  I have watched everyone I care about either grow old and die, or they leave me.  I am going to take a small amount of a poison that will induce heart failure...."

Trichon looked at the screen his father was starting to cry.  "I only have one more thing to tell you son.  I was never there for you when you needed me.  And you probably hate me more than anyone else.  I am sorry son."  Gary paused and was crying he recomposed himself and finished. "Whatever you decide to do with your life son.  Just know one thing.  I will always be proud of you and everything you ever do.  I love you son."  The recording ended and his fathers image faded away and left only darkness.

Trichon looked at the blank screen and collapsed in a pile on the floor.  He started to cry like he had not done in a long time.  He stopped crying long enough to look at the picture of his family on the table and he whispered "I love you too dad."  That night Trichon cried more than he had in his entire life.

El-Aurian?  Wow ... me too!

And a good thing about that ability to reproduce with terrans thing ... otherwise my twin and I would be --- well we wouldn't BE, would we?

I am glad to have a kindred spirit then.
