Recent Chat Room and Website "hiccups"

We are aware of recent chat room issues (people having a hard time getting into the rooms) as well as the fact that our main website just went boom about 30 minutes ago, for about 10 minutes. Uhhh, it's better now, thank you, Webbie!

We have opened a trouble ticket with the company that hosts our chat rooms - we link to the chats from our server, but we don't host the chats locally, for a variety of reasons. Webbie noted that it may be difficult to have the company troubleshoot a problem without more specific details.

Look for a note from him, in this thread, with steps you can take to collect some hard data if you run into chat room trouble again. If you encounter a problem connecting, please post your data here so we can pass it along. Do not post other discussions about the site to this thread, so we can keep it focused on the collection of any connectivity data.

Thank you.

Update: I was running the Thursday academy, and then boom: at 9:44 PM EST, I was kicked out of the chat and a message appeared on the black screen outline of the chat: "error connecting to server, updates to the chat are being performed, try again in a few minutes" and such.

Weirdness! and the first time I've encountered this.

Ditto. I restarted, and kept getting "Error connecting to server. Please try again in a few minutes"

As a note, all addonchat servers are effected right now. Whenever in doubt whether it's on their end, this network status page will show. There was nothing in the announcements section, either, so I assume this must be an emergency fix or they're really just rude.

10ish Eastern update: admittedly that network status page isn't the most timely, as it still shows the servers down while we're back in, but it's still useful to see if they're the cause of mayhem.

Estimated chat re-start: say about 9:54 PM EST; we are all back in.

This morning around 9:00 I tried to log on and received a message regarding an "IPS Server Error" -- I guess this is to do with the InvisionBoard service rather than the website server itself but thought I should post it anyway.

Sam: you were not the only one who encountered that message.

A general heads up went out among the GMs, and then the Ever Fearless Webbie swooped in to correct the technical hiccup and save the digital day.

And digital days are better than analog ones because they don't degrade over time! Hooray for Webbie and boo on database table errors!
