Biographical Information:

Tandaris grew up in a privileged family on Trill. His mother, as a medical expert on symbionts, was a doctor on the Symbiosis Commission. As such, the Brinn family enjoyed special status among their fellow Trill—and with that status, they were labelled as “collaborators” by less fortunate Trill. Keza herself was not compatible with the symbionts, nor were any of the other Brinn family members—save Tandaris. He proved both an able and a willing candidate, and he was joined with the Admiran symbiont in 2366. He is Admiran's ninth host.

Admiran tempered Tandaris' headstrong and stubborn personality traits. Shortly thereafter, Tandaris Admiran was admitted into a training school for joined Trill. He took in an interest in science and engineering, gravitating toward astrophysics and cosmology, as well as warp field theory and subspace dynamic geometry. The training school's latent functions, as overseen by its Romulan administrators, were to foster loyalty toward the Romulan empire and a healthy xenophobia for alien species as well as alien cultures.

Tandaris' loyalty toward the Empire was eventually put to the most dire test imaginable. In 2372, Tandaris' sister Celar joined the terrorist group An Barin—their motto was, “Trill for the Trill.” The group seized control of a major military installation on one of Trill's moons, managing to destroy two light cruisers and a Romulan warbird before being neutralized. As a result, the Tal'Shiar arrested Celar's family and put them all to death, save Tandaris, whom they instead monitored more closely. Celar herself disappeared.

When Tandaris heard of the news, he faced a dilemma: he could go on serving the Romulans, turning his back on Trill and his family forever; or he could take a stand and pick up where his sister left off. After much deliberation, Tandaris chose the latter—he contacted someone in An Barin and enlisted in the terrorist group. Unfortunately, the Tal'Shiar quickly got wind of his new sympathies and moved to arrest him. An Barin managed to smuggle Tandaris offworld to a safe location, but Tandaris knew that unless he could escape the Romulan Empire—no small feat—his days at large were numbered.

Over the next nine years, Tandaris fell into a life of piracy and increasing moral corruption. At first he tried to find his sister. Although the public record listed her as “arrested by the Tal'Shiar” (and therefore presumed dead), rumours surfaced that she had escaped and, like Tandaris, gone into hiding. However, any trails Tandaris dug up remained stubbornly cold. With fewer leads every year, Tandaris eventually lost hope.

Free of any motivating force or any ties to his past, Tandaris fell into a depression. He sought solace in every vice imaginable—the worse the better, as far as he was concerned—and managed to establish a reputation as an unsavoury individual, even as such individuals go. He fell in with the band of pirates led by Ah-Windu Corizon, a Dameon who was even more unsavoury than Tandaris—and perhaps more ruthless as well. Tandaris balanced Corizon's tactical prowess with his own engineering genius, providing instrumental support in seizing control of the Terran empire's SS Excalibur.
