Watchman Star Trek Trailer

26 posts in this topic

Hey there,

I don't know how many people have yet seen the latest trailer for the upcoming Star Trek movie that was released Thursday (and is attached to the Watchman movie), but...honestly, I think it could classify as the best trailer in the entire history of the franchise. I am shocked to say it, but after seeing this thing (for 12+ times), I am more excited about this film than I have been in a very, very, very long time!

In case you haven't seen it....click on Trailer 3 on the link below. Of course it is also at www.startrekmovie.com.

Did I see Vasquez Rocks in there?! I think I spotted flippin' VASQUEZ ROCKS! YEAH BABY, w00t!

If that IS the famed location shot area of Vasquez Rocks - even if its an expanded CGI image or whatever - does anyone else out there really grasp the significance of that? That is so cool!!

JJ Abrams, the cast, financial backers, Paramount, Spyglass entertainment and whoever else's name or company name that I spotted on that little copyright blurb at the end: they are gonna do it. They are gonna pull this movie off!

The Original Series used Vasquez rocks all the time for location shoots and alien planets, and I think that's a wonderful way to link the Classic Series with this new movie based on the Classic series.

I loved this new trailer, but the Rock cameo just put me over the edge (yeah, in case you can't tell)! That is so cool and a great passing the torch nod to what once was and still is an enjoyable franchise! Just because something is re-done does not necessarily mean that it's going to automatically be horrible, and this new trailer (and check out those red flight suits! They remind me of an updated version of the Environmental suits worn in the Classic Movies! its all about the connecting ties!) totally blows any reservations I had out of the water. And I won't even go into the effects because they pretty much speak for themselves, and the ship design (s) I really like and they are updated just enough without going to far from the Classic designs. WOOT!!

Trailer. Rocks. Out.

I even have non-Trek fans in work who have spotted the trailers saying "that looks like a pretty good movie" to me.

Yep there be Romies in this one! (Eric Bana...Romulan fans eat your hearts out!)

Holy moly forgive the ship freak here, but those FX are so awesome. ILM is KING!! My thirst for spacebattles will be quenched!

Now I just got to avoid spoilers on the plot!

Thankfully, it appears there's a little depth in the movie. Much better trailer than the other ones.

Requesting GM sub who would like to watch over the Talon on 5/7 as I intend to be heading to a midnight showing somewhere...anywhere.

I had already had taken the 8th off as soon as they changed the date from my birthday back in December to the new date, to go a few times that day. Then last week found out that's the day of my daughter's prom, so now will have to take her for hair and nail appointments, pictures at the school then off to the limo. Looks like I'll have time to fit in one showing while she's at the prom too and be back in time for her to come home.....busy busy day. Well, there's always Saturday for a 3rd and 4th showing....

Just handed in my day off request for May 8. Midnight showing, w00t!

And while I'm still suffering from the Reman culture shock that was Nemesis - Villian Nero looks kick azz for this film installment of the Romulans!? Doesn't he!?

And, I pounced Wiki: the location shot was indeed Vasquez Rocks, and I also read this below quote from Karl "New McCoy" Urban, and I'm convinced the legacy of the good Doctor is indeed in good hands:

Urban said of taking on the role that "it is a case of not doing some sort of facsimile or carbon copy, but really taking the very essence of what DeForest [Kelley] has done and honoring that and bringing something new to the table". Urban has been a fan of the show since he was seven years old and actively pursued the role

Look, I know there are other characters concerned here, but as far as I'm concerned, it's all about My McCoy, and Urban obviously has some kind of fan history with the show. Oh yeah, and he is a hottie. Bonus! (thank you Oh Trek Gods, Hamina hamina woot woot). :-D

Can't wait, the trailer is awesome, and now I'm looking forward to the film.

If the movie doesn't come out over here the same day it does in the US I'm going to take an LOA until it does because I doubt I'll be able to avoid spoilers on here. ::goes off to see if he can find the German release date::

I dunno about the new McCoy, but I'm really digging the new Uhura.

You go for Uhuru, I'll purr over McCoy, and BEtor can fan herself over McCoy.

I also distrubuted the new trailer link to the select few here at work who are fans - get the word out!

And to answer Linus's post, I'm under the impression from a couple of 'Net sources that the film will have a May 7 release in Australia and the UK.

58 days and counting.

And that's a rare enough thing...it only bodes well. And honestly, I've pretty much liked him in the other things he's done as well. I think he's one of the better castings in the movie.

Not too sure about that trailer clip of spock hugging...not into the huggy stuff from vulcans....

Yes!

Regarding the DOOM film based on the FPS shooter: Urban had the role of haunted Spec Ops soldier "Reaper" Grimm. The film is a total popcorn Sci Fi adventure, but he had some maturity within his portrayal that came out quite well.

And we won't dwell on the Vulcan hugging; maybe he got a head injury?

It actually looked more like a consoling hug to me, a teaser to think he was hugging her romantically.

Yeah, I just moved an appointment from the 8th. I'm not into midnight showings, but I'll be there first thing on the 8th.

Also, I wasn't too impressed and had pretty much written off the movie until Trailer 3.

And don't forget him as Eomer in the LOTR movies - great scowl!

As far as casting, the only one I have a problem with is Wynona Ryder as Spock's mother, ewww!

See attached Image of the new McCoy; I'd definitely say that is a McCoy expression. Looks like he is sounding out an "S", so he's probably telling Spock off as usual, or something. ;-)

Cupid? Wow! I forgot about that role he played. Wasn't he Ceasar in Xena as well?

Yes I confess I watched Xena!!!

And I will see this movie..maybe not the first showing but I will. Looks too good...heck I am even weening myself from the Changes to the Enterprise that kinda made me worry about this film at first.

::Immediately embarks on mission to search Karl as Cupid pics and information:: Loin cloth and bare chest? Heeellllloooooooo Nurse!

I recalled Bruce Campbell as the thief guy from Xena:WP, but did not recall Urban as either Cupid or Ceasar ... didn't Ceasar capture Xena and basically crucify her? Random moment of geek trivia.
