Sivuk of Vulcan

USS Reaent NCC 3345-G

The entire situation had too many inconsistencies.  Since leaving Starbase 345, the Reaent had been drawn into more and more bizarre situations, the first of which was the demise of the USS Cairo.

Scans of New Rigel's moon revealed a settlement with limited technology, yet Reaent had been successfully attacked from the moon's surface, her shuttle and shuttle bay targeted with extraordinary accuracy, resulting in injury to several crew, among them assistant science officer Ltjg Travis Kroells.  As Sivuk stood near Kroells's biobed, listening to Dr. Smith's report of Kroells's condition, he simultaneously processed what information they had gathered from scans, pieces of a puzzle that defied connection.  Had he not been Vulcan, Sivuk may have been overcome by the extent of Kroells's injuries, but he realized an emotional response was illogical, for such a response would do nothing to hasten Kroells's recovery.  His best recourse was to receive Dr. Smith's report and go about his business, trying to decipher what data they had and fill in the gaps with educated theory.

At this point, Sivuk's best guess -- as humans might put it -- was mere speculation.  Sivuk speculated that there were two civilizations on New Rigel's moon, one overt and one covert, for whatever reason.

Much of what has happened so far did not make sense, and the possibility existed that most of it was a ruse -- false information, if you will, to throw Reaent off the track.  The disappearance of nearly a thousand colonists from New Rigel, the destruction of the Cairo, the mysterious reappearance of the Cairo (or an impostor) in the New Rigel system, an ion storm, rumors of an Iconian gateway, the energy field on the moon, its sudden disappearance, the attack on Reaent's shuttles and shuttle bay . . . .  The only answer Sivuk had at this point was that there was no definitive answer, and that, of course, was unacceptable.
