Why I'm a Dumbass!

OK, some of you - Ruca, Kroells, and a couple others I forget - asked me, or think they already know, why I call myself Dumbass on these boards.  So here is the answer.

 

About 10 months ago, when STSF had just moved to startrek.com, there was a TV ad.  I forget the product, but there was this guy who was on a job interview who said "I'm a go-getter, Dumbass material all the way!"  Later on we found out he was interviewing at Dumas and Dumas.

 

I liked the ad, so I chose "dumbass" as my screen name.  I was trying to get through the Academy and graduate to a position in OPS.  I said the GMs should hurry up and graduate me so that when something went wrong with the ships they could say "Well, what do you expect?  Our OPS officer is a dumbass!"

 

Some of the GMs (I forget who) said they probably would not want to graduate someone with a name like Dumbass, but that just made me more determined to keep it!  I eventually ended up as the second cadet to graduate the STSF Academy, right before "admiral_garnoopy".

 

Ridire made me change it when I joined the Reaent, but...  I just couldn't drop the Dumbass title completely!  So this is the compromise I settled on.

If you were the second Graduate...and Garnoopy was obviously the third...i'd sixth after precip and loami...but who was first?

OK, the graduation order went like this:

 

1st:  Precip

2nd:  Dumbass / Van Roy

3rd:  Garnoopy

 

I think Kroells was 4th but I don't remember that far back.

I had thought Loami was before me, making me 5th if precip was the first, so i guess im 4th or 5th, still it's nice to be one of the first

And probally the best feeling is that with vanroy gone from reaent so long ago, Im the highest ranking officer that didnt come over with the ship.

I don't remember who came right before or right after me... but, the graduation rate (cadets/unit time) was much slower back then, even as the number of cadets was increasing.  My own graduation was actually first I'd seen.  You can imagine the uncertainty and horror when they pointed me out from among the crowd right after I had played a pivotal role in the destruction of that night's academy ship.

Well, you can get quite a good list from looking back through the Graduation Annoucement folder. Contains all ship assignments and quite a few Academy graduation notices.
