"Preparations"

Away teams. Last time Fiona had really been offship for any length of time, she'd been stuck by the wormhole aliens on some godsforsaken rock for Survivor: Republic. And considering that that bit hadn't even been a technical away team... Fiona was a pessimist by nature, and such experiences certainly didn't dissuade her from that outlook.

Ponderously, she looked over the rest of the gathered team, silently evaluating the other officers. On the plus side of things, she was glad that the female Robinson was following orders and not over-exerting herself. Fiona was, obviously, not as obsessed with making the poor engineer take eight weeks off as she was with generally affirmirming that she was in restored health before returning to duty.

Then, of course, there was the Arbazan. Fiona was not particularly familiar with them beyond the scope of their basic medical needs -- and the fascinating look at their little society that Link himself had deigned to share. If she gathered correctly, their males were... uncomfortable... around females. She could only (highly amusedly) imagine how ill at east Link had to be around her.

On the other hand, she was almost a bit envious of the once-chief of sciences. He had managed to dedicate himself to the pursuit of new knowledge, through research, something Fiona truly craved. She knew that she wouldn't have been able to cede the control that came from being the head of a department, as Commander Link had, but the idea of reimagining herself to pure research was still a tempting one.

Which, when it came down to it, was a large reason why she had welcomed the opportunity to delegate herself to the away team. Fewer things, after all, provided riper grounds for discovery and correlating research than new planets, and Fiona intended to take advantage of the chance.
