ODN Upgrades

Ensign White returned to Engineering, looking a little confused. He'd just returned from being sent to Commander Laarell Teykier's quarters to attend to a computer problem. Asyle was preparing more of the upgraded ODN cable to replace the existing ones.

"Ensign White, that was fast." Asyle picked up her ODN recoupler, engineering tricorder, and a PADD with schematics and put them in her tool box. "Did you fix the Commander's problem that quick?"

"Nope." Wiping sweat from his brow, he looked a little piqued. "If she was having technical problems, she wasn't dressed for fixing them." He sat down and glared at Asyle, as she began to giggle and said "More likely, she didn't want you fixing her problems!"

"Still, she's the 2nd Officer! Now, I'll probably get all of the dirty jobs just to keep me quiet." He put his head in his hands, his elbows on the console in front of him, sulking.

"Tell you what. I need some help pulling this ODN cable through the conduits, and you've got an order to work on computer performance problems. Why don't we work together for a while, and you can tell me what she was wearing!"

"Oh no, Asyle. I'm keeping my mouth shut. You want some help with the ODN stuff, sure. You want to grab some lunch together, hey, that's cool. But that's it." White sat up, and looking for something to change the subject with grabbed a roll of the upgraded ODN cable. "Hey, this doesn't look like our regular stuff."

She'd learned enough about men to know that, regardless of the races, there seemed to be barely enough clear communication between the sexes to prevent open warfare and allow for procreation. She though for a second and realized that letting White get away now would help her relationships with her fellow engineering crew. "No, it's got 50% more data throughput capacity than our current cable. We'll need to upgrade the phase couplers and manifolds as well to take advantage of it. With all of the processor upgrades Tandaris has been making, and our current mission, this is a big project."

Looking relieved that Asyle had dropped the discussion of his embarrassment, White looked with interest at her. "I'd be happy to work with you on it. What have you planned and done so far?"

"The reports on the network analyzers show that the processors are not able to evenly share the workloads. The first ones I put in were between the temporary hard drives and our main computers. If you could monitor the ODN phase frequencies while I'm using the recouplers, that would help get this job done quickly."

White and Asyle discussed some of the other tasks on her PADD to complete the project, and headed out to work on them.
