Running Out of Time

Shane just wanted to bang on his console in frustration. Once the warp containment field had been temporarily stabilized by Chief Scherer, he and the other engineers had been trying to get power to the impulse engines. A direct torpedo hit had dropped their power by almost 60% and power continued to drop. They had tried to transfer some of the power from Scherer’s antimatter-matter increases, but the engines weren’t getting any of it. So Shane figured that either the data lines had been damaged, leaving the power junction uncontrollable from Main Engineering or the EPS relay junction had been damaged. The only way to find out was to get a team up there to see for themselves. If the EPS junction was undamaged, the team could make the power reroute there. If the junction itself was broken then they couldn’t get power to impulse engines, which would run out of power, leaving the Reaent dead in space and eventually space junk from the Romulan disruptors. But they didn’t have enough time to get the team up to the impulse engines. The shields were failing and the Romulans were showing no mercy. Shane prayed to God for a way to get more time. It seemed that He was the only one that could help the Reaent now.
