Spider Mole

Ensign (Provisional) Asyle and Lt. Jg. Beckman enter an Engineering lab with the Spider Mole, to begin her work to design and build ones for the Excaliber. Beckman plops down, dejectedly, onto a stool to monitor Asyle. His mind is not totally on his job…..

Asyle puts the Spider Mole under a low power microscope, and begins to examine it. A moment later, she sits back, and turns to speak to Beckman. His head is propped up on his hands, his elbows on the counter in front of him. "Mr. Beckman, I was wondering…."

Beckman slowly sits up, and his gaze returns from somewhere far away to Asyle. "I'm sorry, Ensign. What, ah, what is it?"

Asyle was still emotionally scarred from her being abused by the men from her Pakled ship, and the look on Beckman's face showed that he was still thinking of the cute engineering female he'd been ogling before in Main Engineering. Her anger rising, she bit her tongue to keep herself under control. She took a breath, exhaled, and spoke to Beckman.

"We have spiders too, where I came from. If I am to design one for our use, I would want it to be able to find and counter enemy spiders. I know of only two ways that spiders die, prematurely. One is that they are the prey of wasps. The other, something I'm finding strangely appealing right now, is for the female to eat the male they mate with."

Beckman's face began to blush, knowing he'd been caught by Asyle in her web of sorts. "I'm sorry, Ensign. I didn't realize I was being that obvious. Starfleet has many rules and regulations about fraternization between officers and crew, and, well, it's been a long mission. My apologies." Asyle nodded in acceptance, and Beckman continued. "What did you want to know?"

"Instead of building our own spiders, what do you think about making wasps instead?"

Beckman smiled again, and Asyle recognized it as the same smile he had bestowed upon her earlier, when he complemented her on her actions finding the spider mole.

Asyle smiled back, and said "I take it you like the idea, and that the Commanders will too! Good. Would you help me with some of the security protocols needed to communicate with your visual and auditory sensors…."

Asyle went on with her requests, and for the next hour they worked together more as team mates than as suspect and escort. Beckman's face showed his interest in Asyle's ideas, and maybe a little more….
