59 posts in this topic

Hey there,

Your subject implies that by attending 3 Academy sims, you automatically graduate. I'm sorry to say that no such policy exists. STSF normally asks Cadets to attend at least 3 Academy games before being considered for graduation. There is no 1, 2, 3 and you graduate rule/policy. Graduation is based on how well you can play the game. :)

Yeah, what HE said.  Also, to answer your question.  Yes, your experience with STSF Academy sims will stay with you (for your tenure) unless you've been away from the Academy for over six months.  Again, there is NO guarantee of graduation after Academy #3, but if you are skilled in sim-play, can "play well with others," can type well enough to be understood by the players in the room, show an eagerness to play, a willingness to work within the crew and departments and a love of the game and Star Trek, I would hope that you won't have to wait too long.

Can anyone else here see A9 as a motivational speaker?

Ruca,

I had wondered where you had gone.

Although I'm crushed that our time together in the Academy wasn't as much fun for you as it was for me. ;-)

j/k.  I'm glad you found your way back.  You're a good player and you'll be wearing Ensign pips before you know it (or before your boss takes away your free time again).

Gotta be patient, eh?  Patience is a virtue. Just keep coming out to the academies, and give it 110%.  You'll graduate in no time!  :) (I graduated on my 4th academy sim, and serve under thae capitan that graduated me).

If patience is a virtue, and ignorance is bliss, there must be a lot of happy stupid people in long lines.

Okay, let me be more specific.. I was basically told.. "Hey, you should definitely come next week..*wink wink*"... you know what I mean?  (And I want to be clear..that's not exactly what was said.. but I just got that impression.)

They knew that I knew what I was doing.. since I had been conversing with several of them during. :) So I'm not saying it was a policy.. I was wondering that if I had those few weeks or so away.. would I have to 'start over' again. ;P Got it?

And yes, Moose! Hello there again. Yeah, I was buggin' out over the fact I was SOOOO close and argh.. darn work. :) But I've sent myself an email with "SUNDAY SIM!" in the subject to every email I own.. and I'm off on Sunday.. so, woot. I should definitely be there.

Tankee. :)

Missed ya Ruca.. you were doing great.. and I doubt missing some time will seriously hurt your chances at graduation. Looking forward to seeing you Sunday night...

You ARE coming to my Academy too right????

(Who can resist the chance to get blown up by Dac and Me in one night???)

LOL. I'll probably go to both. Why not. :) I just love getting blown up. Nothing quite like it.

Heh, 7 tries isn't that much.

For people who are preoccupied with that 3 sim minimum, think about this:

Would you rather

a) Graduate in 3 sims, despite not really being ready, find that you can't keep up with the advanced sims, that you aren't fitting in, that you're repeatedly being reprimanded by you're CO, and possibly even get yourself demoted right back to cadet and have to do the whole 3 sims over again and again and again

or

:) Graduate when you're ready, and no sooner, immediately fit in on your advanced sim, get commendations (and maybe even promotions   ) for following the rules and working with your crewmates to make respectable contributions to the sim, and only return to the Academies to act as a role model for new cadets?

Remember, if you aren't too preoccupied with the actual graduation, you can have a lot more fun and learn a lot more about simming in the Academy. Earning the rank of Ensign also feels a lot more rewarding than simply receiving it.

And just to follow up on GromVik's comments - you actually don't have the "choice" of graduating right at 3 sims.  The graduation decision is the GMs' in the room at the time.  If they feel that you are ready, you may graduate, if not - you won't.  The 3 sim rule is a minimum and not expected or typical for graduation.  There are people who just haven't figured out the concept of online, group simming and they may have run in dozens of Academy sims and not graduated.  There is no requirement that says that a GM must graduate a player after a certain number of maximum sims, either.

Hey there,

Well, I know of someone who...when I was first in the Academy...had to attend around 156 Academy sims in order to graduate. No, I'm not joking. :)
