"Spikeheads and Prejudice"

George stormed into his quarters shouting expletives at the top of

his lungs.  His anger once again was getting the best of him.  The picture

frames on his shelf shook violently when George hurled his small nightstand at the

titanium walls.

"As if I haven't had enough?!" George spit out, "then they give me a spike head!"

The middle-aged Lieutenant shot his eyes around the room looking vainly for something to dampen his gushing rage.  George threw his head back and looked intently at the ceiling still allowing an unkind word to slip out in  three-second increments.  His conflict with Keraz more than likely stemmed from his dealing with Klingons in the past.  It seemed that everytime George was assigned to work with a Klingon, a complicated situation transpired as a result.  Fresh out of the academy, George had a run in with a Klingon officer during a diplomatic mission to Kernas, VI.  The result was a sizable scar still visible on the left side of his chest.

His most recent altercation occurred on Starbase 27 while having a drink on the promenade.  George was mistaken for a convict who was heavily in debt.  Even though George thought he had sufficiently proven who he was, the Klingons took him back to their ship and imprisoned him, charging him with a slew of different crimes.  He was fortunate that his own vessel launched an investigation to ascertain his whereabouts.

George let Keraz's comments bounce around in his brain.  "You're just prejudice to Klingons!" he had shouted in George's face.  George smiled as he finally came to a conclusion.  Was George prejudice against the spike head variety? Sure.  Did it bother him? Certainly not.  In fact, the conclusion literally delighted him on the inside.  An enlightened expression flashed across George's complexion.  He doubted that Keraz would be a vindication for the Klingon Empire.  In many respects, George hoped that Keraz would be the same, to more easily justify his actions.

As the day's events carried through in his mind, a smirk emerged on George's face, then a smile, and then, like a ruptured dam, laughter gushed from his lips.  After quite awhile, George lay down on his bed giggling like a school girl, unable to restrain his joy that was fueled by malicious beliefs.  George's personal gripe, his prejudice, had been satisfied, at least for that day.  Suddenly, as if an entire year of anger had been washed away, he was looking forward to the challenges the spikehead might give him tomorrow.
