Predeparture

Marx stood before the open weapons cabinet in his quarters. Dealing with the local black market had been one of his tasks while hunting for his brother, but hadn’t been his forte. He was more of a “slip in with stealth and eliminate the target” type. But if it meant getting out of here, then by stealth and guile, he would do it.

“Will,” Ranko asked, “just what are you looking for? Besides enough weapons to start a small clan war?”

“Déjà vu, Ranko,” Will replied, as he reached for several scanner transparent shuriken, both his usual bo and hira, and secreted them about his person. “Except this time it’s not a rescue mission.”

“It has something to do with the intruder alert, doesn’t it?”

“It does. But I can’t give you the specifics.” He took a few flat, coin shaped smoke and concussion grenades, and slipped them into the pockets of the vest he was wearing.

“No swords this time,” Ranko asked, as her husband closed the cabinet.

“No. That would probably be suspicious…to who ever we deal with tonight.”

The redheaded wife hugged her husband tightly. “Be careful, anata. I want my husband home in one piece, not multiple pieces.”

“Worry not,” he replied, as he returned his wife’s hug. “I’ll be home, safe and sound.” Will slipped out of his wife’s grasp and headed for the door. “Tell Xian I’ll be back.” The doors slid silently behind him.
