Transport of Atmospheric Particulate Report

TO: Lt. Cmdr. Cyiv Chief Engineer, USS Challenger.

From: Lt. j.g. Abe Kas, Assistant Engineer, USS Challenger.

Subject: Method of Qu'noS Atmosphere Particulate Removal

The following items were used, which are modifications to existing technology, to effect the removal.

1. Transport Enhancers – Triangular Large Volume: Standard linear models were found to not allow focusing of transporter beams on large volumes of space in three dimensions. Designing a triangular model allows for cone and cubic shapes of space to be accurately targeted and transported. See Cyiv designs for details.

2. Probe Modifications: The transport enhancers need to be stabilized and held virtually motionless in relation to each other, in three dimensions. Using existing targeting and range-finding technology, networking and auto piloting software, in-place Klingon navigation satellites, and simple PADD storage and computing devices, the necessary guidance systems and zero-vibration adapter can be constructed. New thruster modules are required to provide micro-maneuvering abilities in the atmosphere at 60,000 feet (20 Km) are required, and CO2 based designs are attached. See Kas(1) and Kas(2) designs for details.

3. Workbee Shuttle – Used to deploy modified probes, and to refuel them between deployment sites are required. The probes used could not carry the fuel needed for extended flights and still maintain a low enough amount of mass to retain maneuverability required. See Kas(3) designs for manipulator waldoe modifications and CO2 refueling delivery systems.

Results: A volume of 1 cubic kilometer can be scanned, and the appropriate particulate matter identified with a 92% efficiency and transported per cycle. The resulting matter is condensed into a solid mass similar to the ore that was once mined for energy production on the moon Praxis. Approximately 5,200 transports will be required, taking approximately 2 years with a modest sized fleet. The atmosphere will then take approximately 10 years to become rebalanced, and produce oxygen at previous levels. See attached Savros report for calculations.

It is recommended that the fleet of Klingon transport ships used previously to transport the ore from Praxis now be used to accept the transported matter. Disposition of the ore, and its usefulness in energy production, has not been examined.
