“Bonds” – Part IV of IV

Log Series Part IV

Jolt realized that Slick’s lungs must have water in them, and he realized he had to get his breathing going. So, Jolt leaned over, and shoved hard down on Slick’s chest, forcing the lungs to contract. Then, Jolt leaned forward, and tears dripping onto his brother’s face, he breathed two breaths of air into the unconscious brother.

Nothing happened. Slick remained perfectly still.

Jolt shoved hard on Slick’s chest again, several times, hard and fast as he remembered someone telling him once.

He gave Slick two breaths of air again, and watched in amazement as Slick’s body contracted hard, rejecting the water in its lungs.

Slick spat out water, pain ripping through his body. He looked up, and saw Jolt, in tears, leaning over him.

Coughing hard, Slick said, “I’m ok.”

An immense relief passed over Jolt, his twin brother would be fine. He reached down, and wrapped his arms around Slick, his eyes stinging with the amount of tears that were coming out, but his heart in pure joy.

“Never do that again!” Jolt said, wanting to be angry for his brother scaring him, but unable to muster anything.

Still embraced in a tight hug, Slick said, “I won’t. I’m sorry”, and Slick wrapped his arms around Jolt, returning the hug.

The two of them had a bond, which could not be described, and in the pouring rain, lightning flashing across the sky, and wind whipping trees around, as they held each other, it was more obvious than ever.
