Miniatures and Maps?

Hey folks,

I'm new to simming, so just a question whether maps and miniatures ever come into play with Star Trek. I've never done D&D, but that is one part of the game that appealed to me.

Thanks!

-Robert

First off, welcome. Feel free to come to an Academy (after the holiday of course) or sit in on an Advanced Sim (again, after the holiday), to learn our style.

Secondly, as for maps and miniatures, there is a table-top wargame called Starfleet Battles, however it uses counters similar to most standard wargames. See the embedded link for more information.

And thirdly, our gaming style here is more traditional role-play, similar to D&D and a host of other copycats. Maps, miniatures and books can play a role in developing the storyline, but more as support tools for the GM or log writer.

The Java live chat text interface is "no frills" and the key is using your own imagination (like D&D) without the aid of video game visuals as you play along with the plotline. And as Will said, any sort of maps or books or miniatures or dice is up to the GM backing up the plotline.

Welcome to STSF and have fun Robert; this site rocks out and is prime to do some old school based RPG. Trek on.
