“Bonds” – Part II of IV

Log Series Part IV

Time passed, and Jolt did not arrive. Slick began to wonder what was taking his brother so long, and Slick began to get frustrated with this plan. However, he was not going back to camp to see what was going on, his mind said that would be giving in.

More time passed, and the clouds darkened. Slick realized a storm was coming, but he still didn’t want to head back to camp. He did not realize that the storm was already in full fury on the other side of the mountain, and that it was just waiting to cross the peak and it would be in full torrent within a minute.

The river rushed faster, gaining speed and power with additional water provided by the downpour of rain Slick did not see. Slick had no idea what was happening to the river, for it wasn’t obvious to the eye that it was changing.

A few more minutes ticked by, Slick, having no warning of the impending danger coming, continued to sit on the log.

The wind picked up first, going from only a slight breeze to a powerful force, whipping branches around. Then, the rain hit, and it hit hard. Buckets of it just started pouring down, soaking everything around within a minute. The river seemed to swell with this, and lightning flashed across the sky.

Slick, soaked through, feeling the wind whip at him, realized he had to get back right away. He climbed up, standing on his two feet, and walked towards the land via the log.

The broken tree was slick with rain, and he could not keep his footing very well. His arms clung to branches, moving only a few feet at a time.

Suddenly, a branch he was holding snapped, and Slick lost his balanced on the wet log. His entire body fell downwards, snapping branches at he hit them, and then he fell straight into the raging river below.

Slick went under, and then popped back up, gasping for breath. He was already fast on his way down the river, begin tossed around like a baseball.

He tried to let out a scream, but he only ended up swallowing more water. He went under again, and smashed into a rock, his body went completely lifeless.
