Log Series Part IV

“I hate you!” Slick screamed.

“Yeah well, you’re a jerk!” Jolt shot back.

The two brothers were in the Rockies National Park, camping on a family trip in the remote woods. Over something silly, the two of them had gotten into an argument, and were currently dueling it out with words by their campsite.

“If you hate me so much, why don’t you just go away from me?” Jolt taunted, purposely trying to aggravate his brother.

“FINE. I WILL” Slick screamed, not wanting to have to admit he might not hate his brother as he said he did so adamantly ago.

Slick whipped around, and stormed off. His feet smashing down on twigs and leaves, crunching sounds snapping up from the ground.

His twin brother also whipped around, and stomped into their tent. Jolt couldn’t quite remember why he and his brother had been fighting, but he knew he was right, and Slick was wrong.

Meanwhile, their father watched this, and sighed. The two brothers had fought before, and usually ended up just wanting to be separate for a few hours. But in the end, they always made up, and then were inseparable for weeks at a time. Unfortunately, every so often, a fight like this came up, and it was never pretty, and no one could solve it right then and there.

Calling out to the storming away Slick, his father said “Garn, don’t go to far or stay out to long, a storm is brewing.”

Slick didn’t respond, just stormed off into a forest of trees, his feet moving quickly across the ground.

Walking for a while, Slick eventually arrived at the river, which flowed near their camp. It was a fast paced one that at parts was very rough. He and his brother had rafted it only a few days ago, laughing their way down it, enjoying their time together.

Slick sighed, he wanted to stay mad at Jolt, but it was so hard. However, his mind resolved that he was going to stay out here until his brother came to find him and apologize. After all, it all was completely Jolt’s fault, right?

Moving up the river stream, Slick arrived at a large log which had been hit by lightning some years ago, and fallen across the river. Leaves were gone, but branches still hung, some of them dipping into the water.

He climbed up onto the log, and moved to the center. Sitting, he let his feet dangle a few feet above the water. It rushed below him, moving quickly downstream.

Looking upwards, Slick noted the sky had clouded over with dark menacing clouds, but he thought nothing of it. The camp was less than a kilometer away; he could quickly walk it if it started raining.

He sat, and thought, looking at the water, waiting for his brother to arrive and apologize.
