it really depends what flavour you go for,

kirk and archer are very light,

Picard is very dark,

Benjamin Sisko is very deep

and Janeway...is like a shark?

Don't ask me! i can't think of a rhyming descriptive

I've just gotten the first 2 seasons of DS9 on DVD...  and pre-ordered the 3rd (which comes out 6-3-03!)

As I watch them over again, I realized just how good the series really was.  I give my nod to Benjamin Sisko.

(Even if he spent several seasons only as a Commander, lol)

I thought Sisko was a darker Captain than Picard (no race puns intended), but not as analytical.  I think Picard was the best Captain.  Sulu might have been the best, but with only one movie and one Voyager episode to base him on we just don't know.

Voyager, however, had the best crew and was the best series.

Hey there,

In my view the best Captain was James T. Kirk. I mean, anyone who was able to have that many woman in his life and survive into his 60's/70's is a bold adventurer!   :)

As for Janeway, her Season 6/7 performance was doable. However, the first four seasons of her were simply....uck. I mean the entire "We're one big Starfleet family even though Starfleet is 70 years away, half the crew is criminals and I just insulted the remaining half by promoting people who were dropouts! And who cares that I just gave a criminial security access to the auto-destruct..."

In my books Kirk & Calhoun are in the same league. Good women, but Calhoun is made to be tougher, bolder if you. He's the one Captain who I can idenitify with really.

Picard is my favorite.

I find Kate Mulgrews acting skills to be very poor.

They should have never put a woman in the captain's chair.   :)

I can only speak for myself and my own personal opinions, but I believe that was an extremely rude and degredating comment to women in general.

I happened to think Kate Mulgrew could act, but I may be biased due to I loved Voyager.

However, in regard to putting a women in the Captain's chair, I happen to believe anyone, woman or man has the power and right to sit there. We are all equals, no matter who we are, what we believe in, what species we are, or what we do. Star Trek is based on that principle, we are all equal in this galaxy, it keeps getting smaller, and we have to live together. If we cannot learn to accept each other no matter who we are then we will fall apart. It is our unity which makes us strong.

Well I voted for other because, oh this sounds like total brown nosing.  My favorite captain if Fred.  I'd personaly choose a captain who I actualy knew so there.  But my favorite seris captain was sisko.  Due to the fact that it was a station there were many reacuring characters, to many to name in fact (well i guess if you realy wanted to you could name them all) but that is the reason I like sisko so much.  If you take janeway's situation, the aliens they ran into were on for what one, two episodes? (Not counting the Kazon and the Borg) so in the case of voyager, Janeway makes a bad first impression.  What do they do?  Not let them travel through their space?  Atack them?  Probally both.  Either way most of the characters seen on voyager were seen for no more then two episodes.  The actions take twards character in DS9 affect the plot for many episodes, even seasons latter.

Moose... of course its Moose. An antlered Captain.

I really like Calhoun. Haven't read all the books. But he's great.

If you wanna bash on acting, Kirk was so poorly acted. Partly it was the style at the time, but partly its just that he's not a great actor. Kate Mulgrew can act. She had a tough role to play as the first woman in a series (not just a guest spot) as a captain. I think she did a great job, tho I haven't watched the whole series. Sisko was an awesome Captain, as was Picard. I was thrilled at the idea of Sulu having a series, and then they changed it for Archer. Sulu just has the VOICE of a Captain. Personally, I like the Archer character, tho I can't stand the actor.

Hows that for non-committal? Seems to be my modus operandi today....
