Picking Up the Pieces

99 posts in this topic

(I iz lurkin' on ur boards, startin' a Seazon Three topic) >^..^<

06.19.08 Mission Update:

- The recovery effort on Earth has progressed to the point that the massive mobilization of patrol ships and ships stationed in Earth orbit and on station keeping throughout the immediate star system is no longer needed; Medical support ships, primarily, are now moving in to take over the full on recovery effort for the planet. Not much can be done for the massive loss of life and property at this point except starting to pick up the pieces, literally and figuratively.

- Most of the Federation council members were injured and killed in the Soltan orbit attack on Paris; an emergency meeting of surviving government officials has been planned, with the meeting place scheduled to be on Vulcan.

- The Agincourt has new orders: warp to Rigel, pick up the Secretary of State, and ferry the political diplomat to Vulcan for the government meeting.

General Questions:

With Earth so completely slagged, I wonder if the Federation Council will permanently relocate somewhere?

And what about all the cadets that were lost when the academy was hit? I'm thinking this will have reprecussions throughout the Starfleet because there won't be any new influx of midshipmen, other then cadets/middy's who were either away from the attack due to a training assignment or whatever.

And the 'Court doctors and any medical personnel are going to have to be on the lookout for anyone having issues dealing with grief or what they experienced planet side with the recovery effort. Knee deep in broken buildings, bodies, blood? Certain looter or pirate groups taking advantage of the chaos? Not a fun time, and sure to have mental reprecussions no matter who you are.

And what of vengeance against the Soltan attackers? That can be a powerful (and mindset altering) trap to fall into. Will the Starfleet stay on the straight and narrow, or send off a bunch of ships to hunt the Soltan down?

Seems as though we've opened up the proverbial can of worms. Many questions. No answers. Or, as Tay would say, "words, words, words."

06.25.08 Mission Update:

Mission Brief: The Agincourt has been sent to Rigel to pick up the Secretary of State and take her to a meeting on Vulcan, where the surviving high-level Federation officials are gathering to deal with the aftermath of the Soltan attack. As we open, the Agincourt has just enter the Rigel system

- The Agincourt achieved standard orbit above Rigel, and the Secretary of State and her staff were beamed aboard

- The Marine Honor Guard (and the Sharks just looked so pretty in those dressy blues.) escorted the Bolian Secretary and staff to the designated VIP quarters

- Four Security guards are to be stationed 24/7 outside the designated VIP quarters, with two roving patrols on a continuous circuit on the outlying decks as well.

- Engineering continues to repair any battle damage

- Medical is still tending to any personnel that were as well battle damaged

- The Ops dept. is making plans for a reception for the government representatives

The thought of going back to the Gamma Quadrant and whipping some Soltan behind has already been planted in the collective Marine mind. Any chance we get to act on it?

Trekking off to Perseus is all well and good, but what about Alpha quadrant concerns and security?

- Earth stability, quadrant stability: there isn't any! Earth is slagged, and quadrant powers are all experiencing the ripples of the fallout.

- A couple of the logs from Laarell, Salir have hinted at the plans that some sciences types are trying to implement/draw up for an upgraded early warning system for Earth. I'd say this is big time top priority with regard to stabilize the Earth

- The Council is gone: replacements are needed, and the reamining gov't officials are basically walking targets for any wacko who gets it in their mind to take them out and finish what the Soltans started

- There are no new incoming cadets for the Fleet, only a couple thousand survived (general number there): that's just a big concern. No new blood, and if scores of officers (like from the Yellowjacket, Excalibur and other ships) were lost in the orbital battle with the Soltans, the Fleet is stretched thin in general.

It might not be the best time to send off a search and destroy party, but I'm sure there is some tactical officer admiral type planning just that. Payback is always a strong motivating factor, especially when said admirals can control the chess peices from the safety of a briefing room.

Quite a mess we have, indeed.

RE plans to create an early warning system: Tay and Shadow were working on a subspace alarm of sorts last Weds, but we haven't quite figured out how it's going to work. We need a Soltan ship so we can whack the signature off it for a test. We don't want just anything coming through subspace to set off a planetary take cover, but having a Soltan alarm should come in handy.

Fleet is quite thin, word must be out that the Federation is vulnerable and I would think that at the very least circling the wagons is a good idea. On the other hand, the best defense is a good offense, or at least a posture that makes it look like the Federation is in control (read: coverup).

Much to ponder.

07.02.08 Mission Update:

TBS: 2 Days and 1 Night

- The Secretary of State and her aides are now on board the ‘Court and are settling in for the escort run to the planet Vulcan. The surviving government officials are all convening on Vulcan, and the Secretary is due to attend.

- As the sim got underway, a reception (with the planning committee spearheaded by Lt. Cmdr “Sin” Condacin) to honor the Secretary was going on in the main observation lounge. Most of the crew was in attendance, sporting marine dress blues or fleet dress whites and making small talk with each other or the political guests. Onward with the mingling!

- Elsewhere, there was ships business to be attended to: Lt. Col. “Paradox” Day sent Major “Hair” Rieve and Lt. Major “Troll” Merrill on a shipboard mission to locate Lt. Cmdr “Will” JoNs and bring her to the marine offices. The XO wanted to have a chat with her 2XO regarding the second officers discharge of an illegal disruptor in the corridors.

07.09.08 Mission Update:

TBS: 4 Hours

- The Agincourt crew continued to the planet Vulcan with their very special passenger aboard, the Bolian (I didn't catch her name) Secretary of State. The Secretary is one of the few surviving Federation government members scheduled to be at the government meeting for those officials that have survived the Soltan attack of Earth. At the sim's end, the ship was closing in on taking up an orbit vector around the planet.

- Command: Colonel Harper met with the Secretary and explained as best she could regarding the crews various adventures within the Perseus sector, as well as the various races (such as the Soltan. See "Races of the Perseus Arm" for further information here http://www.stsf.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=13581) we encountered there as well.

- Sciences: Lt. Commander Condacin had a heart to heart talk with her resident energy being, Shadow, about dating, going to the movies, and other activities that various species partake in for enjoyment.

- Medical: Lieutenant Major Merril was on acting CMO duty (and did the big Trill also end up going to SCI to deal with the Chief SCIs hangover?), Doctor Tordai enjoyed some tea, while Doctor Socom followed along with the conversations. For once, the Docs are not armpit deep with victims from the Earth attack, and medical is relatively quiet.

- Engineering: Lieutenant Murray continues showing engineering newbie Karrigan the ropes, while Lt. Commander Kassem has a conversation with the new security grunt Ensign Grafton.

- Security: Lieutenant Black-Knight had the Dingo Squad going through some hectic training paces in the holodeck.

- Marine: Lt. Colonel Day had a heart to heart talk with Lt. Commander JoNs, regarding the 2XOs detachment mission to Africa during the Earth clean up process. Mainly, what future tactical methods the young commander could employ to avoid a similar situation and the resulting injury and mental distress. Meanwhile, Major Rieve and Marine Captain Matthews were discussing delivering some payback to the Soltan at the end of a charged phaser rifle.

(Note: 0716.08 Sim Cancelled)

07.23.08 Agincourt Mission Update:

TBS: Unknown (the Furball missed this)

- The Secretary of State and her staff members disembarked for Vulcan. The delegate was escorted to the transporter room by Colonel “Medusa” Harper, and according to the parting conversation, the Secretary will possibly be calling on the Agincourt crew again for any Soltan related intelligence. The crew got up close and personal with the Soltan during the unplanned Perseus Arm Mission, and ended up on the front lines during the Soltan attack on Earth thanks to a “wake surfing” ride when the Soltans jumped from sector to sector, so therefore we are a big source of intelligence.

- Colonel Harper authorized shore leave for the crew on Vulcan, and passed on the go ahead orders to coordinate the shore leave parties to Lieutenant Colonel “Paradox” Day, with a special emphasis on sending any officers showing high stress levels. There was some debate between the two commanding officers regarding whether or not the planet of Vulcan is to be considered a suitable location or not for our shore leave purposes.

- Lieutenant Major “Troll” Merrill approached Lt. Commander “Will” JoNs regarding his new project and the security clearance he needs to pursue the plan. The marine and acting CMO is dissatisfied with the current capability to respond to medical incidents during potential combat situations, and he wants to redesign the medical shuttle and its two escort combat shuttles (Runabout class). This involves retrofitting three Runabout shuttles with both legitimate and possibly illegitimate technology.

- See this character log written by Troll and Lt. Commander "Sin" Condacin for background information: http://www.stsf.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=16393.

- JoNs, usually the one to be adventuresome did a one eighty turn with regard to this underground project. The feline suggested to Troll that he draw up a report – with both technology types outlined – and submit the idea for review by the senior command staff, which the Caitian as 2XO would sign off on. If not, the Caitian would do the report herself. The big marine has two days to submit a report.

- Lieutenant Shadow, our resident energy being, was overseeing some experiments in the sciences offices until others on the ship (Lt. Black-Knight and Marine Capt. Matthews) reached out to him with some mental “calls” for assistance. "Buddha" Matthews dealt with a mental picture made real, and "Elvis" Black-Knight had issues with an anti-grav stretcher.

- Elsewhere, it was business as usual in Engineering. For once, the grease monkeys under the command of Lt. Commander “Flux” Kairi aren’t neck deep in repairs or battle damage.

07.30.08 Agincourt Mission Update:

TBS: A few minutes

- Colonel Harper rounded up candidates to speak in the Council session meeting regarding our various tactical encounters with the Soltan; Harper, Rieve, Condacin and JoNs beamed down, and were joined by a rather curious energy being floating in the ether.

- All shore leave parties were recalled. An Admiral contacted the ship and spoke to XO Day regarding some government changeover issues a local planet is having; the Agincourt has been tapped to investigate and help mitigate the growing hostile situation on this world.

- Harper and her Soltan research/deposition team will remain on Vulcan, while Day will take the remaining crew and the Agincourt to the world that is having the difficulties. It was suggested that the Captains Yacht be dispatched (for the remaining ground team) to the surface of Vulcan so the ship can retain all MVAM sections for the new detachment mission.

Yacht? Isn't your yacht broken or something? Or scratched? Or maimed? Not that I'd know anything about it.

08.06.08 Agincourt Mission Update:

TBS: 12 Hours

- The Agincourt warped off to Acamar to help with some political brush fires that were flaring on the planet. The away team remained on Vulcan to impart the gathered Soltan intelligence and tactical information to the council members.

- Colonel Day appointed Buddha Mathews to head the marines and Buzzsaw MRyll to oversee the sciences and security departments in the interim until the members of the Vulcan away team return.

- So far the council session goes smoothly, and no one on the away team has had an allergic reaction (flesh and blood solids and energy beings alike) to all the brass.

08.13.08. Agincourt Mission Update:

TBS: 12 Hours

Vulcan:

- The Federation governmental council session continues onward as the away team members continue to relay the collected Soltan knowledge. Shadow is introduced to the officials and Fleet officers in attendance. Our resident energy being is questioned about his job as a Seeker of knowledge within the Agincourt sciences department along with the duties he performs to assist the crew. This First Contact went well.

- The government council panel then began to address the question of the Soltan turning process as well as their weapons and offensive capabilities and what can be done tactically in order to defend against these capabilities.

- A transcript character log illustrates the turning process as recorded by Lieutenant Commander “Sin” Condacin.

Agincourt:

- The ‘Court enters into a vector orbit above the planet of Acamar. Marine and Security officers are deployed to the surface. Tensions continue to run high due to the planetary elections.

- Both the Squids and the Sharks sport the black Special Ops BDU’s for this peacekeeping force mission. Lieutenant Commander “Flux” Kassem accompanies the landing party as the ranking officer on the planetary surface.

- On the bridge of the Prometheus class vessel, Science Officer Julio offered some insight into the clan based cultural structure of the Acamarans while Master Chief Keltex manned the bridge tactical station in order to relay and monitor the ground teams. Engineering was informed by Lieutenant Colonel “Paradox” Day to standby for possible orbital bombardment.

Kitteh Questions:

- Putting aside the fact that Acamar has a history of clan faction based chaos, can we expect more unrest rippling across the Alpha Quadrant in situations such as this?

- Did the incursion of the Soltan into Alpha space and the attack on Earth merely light a flash fire of unrest that will continue to burn across the worlds of the Alpha sector?

Thanks to Sam Kent for helping out

"You really think the fuse is gonna go on this one, Buddha?" She had done peacekeeping before; sometimes it really was as simple as she called it, and sometimes it wasn't, and it was awfully hard to tell in advance which was which.

Owen shrugged, picked up another PADD lying around and perused it for a moment before speaking. "It's just a hunch but if someone else higher up didn't think there might be trouble why send us instead of getting a real assignment and kicking some serious Soltan ass? None of us is happy with the mission but it's our job to follow orders and if we're ordered to babysit that's what we'll do. If someone complains you may want to remind them that noone is forced to be here...not anymore."

This log (nice one guys) fits perfectly with the on going Season 3 discussion, so I klepped this section. Here's the deal:

1.) I absolutely loved the Soltan/Perseus Arm Mission and I thought the whole thing rocked out. But, considering we role played that scenerio for over a year in real life simming, and had opportunties to get into several action (Soltan prison planet, space battles) scenerios in this sector, I have no desire to head back onto that Soltan/story arc - or the Perseus - at least *right this second*.

2.) But this leads me to my next in character point. From a logical standpoint, while the characters might want to go into Soltan kick butt mode, that's not feasible right now with the Alpha Quadrant reeling from the attack on Earth. Alpha stability needs to be maintained, tactical options and plans and responses need to be explored, and then the Starfleet and her officers can move back onto the larger story arc of what to do with the Soltans. So, in the meantime, all the surviving officers (and there's the key term there, surviving officers. The Fleet lost a lot of officers, and can't just send off a military task force to attack a superior power) deal with the home Quadrant problems such as the Acamar or a council session on tactics.

- Once the home quadrant is stabilized, then boom: there's your opportunity to jet back to a past story plot.

3.) And honestly: why the Agincourt? Considering we spent how many months in Perseus ... how do we know that certain Fleet bigwigs don't consider us a security risk right now? Why not send another ship to sort out the Soltan mess?

I mean I know the 'Court and her officers are the stars of the game, and of course the crew would get sent back to the Perseus for some Soltan hunting, but y'all know what I mean.

08.20.08 Agincourt Mission Update:

TBS: 8 Hours

- The elections on Acamar are beginning to wind down and the clan factions in general are dispersing from the designated geographic voting areas. However, there are still some minor skirmishes and scuffles taking place in certain areas. Local Acamaran police squads called the Agincourt teams in for further assistance. Eventually, the ornery factions are subdued and some arrests are made by the local police forces.

- Meanwhile, the council interview process continues, with both offensive and defensive strategies explored with regard to the Soltan and Selshan fall out situation. Covert operations is one option considered and then the council discussion delved into the general exploration mission adopted by the Agincourt while the crew was traversing the Perseus Arm as another counter option. It would seem that both at home defense as well as an offensive “going to find the enemy” strategy are equally being considered as options and discussions.

- A Hydra Complex was specifically mentioned by Lieutenant Commander Condacin. Going directly after the Soltan soldiers of the Selshan would still leave the Hydra head, the Selshan, in a command position. Yet attacking the Selshan full on is somewhat suicidal due to the soldier defensive caste of their servants, the Soltan.

- The Agincourt pulls out from the Acamar mission and eventually gets underway back to Vulcan.

08.27.08 Agincourt Mission Update:

TBS: 18 Hours

- The surviving Federation council members decide that a task force will be eventually formed and deployed to deal with the looming Soltan threat.

- Local Alpha Quadrant planetary militias will also be formed as an added defense bonus.

- The “Soltan Defensive Net” that our Science department has been exploring for the Alpha Quadrant is also considered a viable option and will be further looked into and developed.

- Colonel Harper suggested to the Council that it would be a wise course to fully reverse engineer the Soltan warp drive and equip the aforementioned task force with this option.

- The Agincourt arrives in planetary orbit over Vulcan.

- We have a brand spanking new Executive Officer. Be gentle with her. :-P

09.03.08 Agincourt Mission Update:

TBS: Eight Hours

- The Agincourt is to depart Vulcan with a new mission: survey all the Alpha Quadrant planets attacked by the raiders now known to be the Soltan. The previous and new data on these worlds and the space around the planets will help create the early warning defensive system to be utilized against any further Soltan attacks (we hope). Sciences will be kept busy during the initial data collecting.

- The Klingon High Council and Fleet will be assisting the Federation in this time of need as the devastated Alpha Quadrant rebuilds; a Klingon ship is set to rendezvous with the Agincourt to assist with the planet mapping, data gathering and general quadrant patrol.

- Tentative plans regarding a meet and greet dinner once the ship rendezvous with the Klingon crew are discussed between the CO and her new First Officer. Klingon food will of course be served. Pepto Bismol, Alka Seltzer and Bean-o will be offered in place of the after dinner mints.

- The first planet scheduled for the data gathering, patrol, and general recon is Vorana Six (the crew has been to this planet before; check the 'Court website and boards for full details).

- Major Hanna-Beth "Hair" Rieve is re-deployed to the USS Union Pacific. Her orders? Classified. Our guess is it has to do with some Soltan hunting. Godspeed Major.

09.10.08 Agincourt Mission Update:

- Colonel Harper paid a visit to the Sciences department to discuss the Soltan subspace ether warp drive with Lt. Commander Condacin and Shadow, and the Soltans themselves were talked about. Is it possible the Soltan do not realize the full destructive potential of the warp drives that they employ to zoom through the subspace ether?

- Meanwhile, the new executive officer visited the Engineering department at the request of CENG Lieutenant Commander Kassem for a pop inspection. Several cat jokes were made by a certain senior grease monkey by the name of Lieutenant Murray; remember, I know where you sleep and have access to command codes.

- Troll Merril and Doctor Socom talked some medical shop; Merrill also paid a visit to engineering to speak with Kassem.

- The Agincourt entered the Vorana Six sector, and transponder signals confirmed that the IKS VaKang, the Klingon ship assigned for added security, is also traveling to the Vorana planet as well.

09.17.08 Agincourt Mission Update:

- The Agincourt arrived at Vorana Six to begin the data collection; the Soltan were last at this planet to kidnap Doctor Senok from his lab.

- The IKS VaKang, assigned as a security backup for this mission and in station keeping orbit at the planet, contacted the bridge. Executive Officer JoNs and Acting Marine Commander Day exchanged greetings with an old war targ of a Klingon Captain (B’Qar) and his younger female First Officer (Azet).

- Engineering: Lt. Commander Kairi handed out engineering assignments to junior officers Karrigan and TLak while senior Lieutenant Murray was ordered by JoNs to do laps around the Marine concourse for a mildly insubordinate attitude.

- Science: Mister Shadow got into his work, literally, when he visited engineering and absorbed himself into the Soltan warp drive component(s) for a closer look.

- Marine: Mister Troll continues his quest for some tricked out offensive/defensive medical Runabouts.

- There will be an informal dinner and ship tour to welcome our fellow Klingon officers. Senior officers/department heads will attend the dinner.

09.24.08 Agincourt Mission *BOOM*:

TBS: Five (5) Minutes

- *BOOM*

- The data gathering mission to Vorana Six takes secondary priority when Deck Two is compromised by an explosion of unknown origin.

- The Secondary Science Lab (s), Environmental Controls, and Dorsal Sensor Array are all taken out or partially damaged by the blast.

- Science personnel, along with any other personnel on the deck at the time, are either dead, badly burned, or are caught in the space vacuum before emergency shielding snapped in place.

- Engineering and Damage Control Teams are on the scene.

- The IKS VaKang stands by to assist the USS Agincourt in this time of need.

10.01.08 Agincourt Mission Update:

TBS: 2 Hours

- Deck 2 is seriously compromised; the air quality is very bad, and there were quite a few personnel badly injured by the explosions; Damage Control Teams and Medical personnel go to work investigating the area and offering medical aide to the survivors, respectively.

- Chief Science Officer Condacin and the Bridge personnel discuss and apparently discover that Something Very Important was stored in the auxiliary labs.

- What caused this explosion on Deck 2 and the resulting compromise of the affected systems? Sabotage? Faulty equipment? Installation error?

10.08.08 Agincourt Mission Update:

TBS: None Given

- Cleanup continues as the crew takes stock of the aftermath of the Deck 2/Secondary Science Lab blowout. The Engineering teams work to restore some sort of working order.

- Lieutenant Commander Condacin enters the compromised lab area and takes in the damage with her Chief Science Bat Tay in tow.

- We find that Shadow was basically scattered by the force of the explosion; Lieutenant Commander Kairi brought in a generator/amp booster to fling some energy out to possibly help the energy being to re-coalesce.

- Lieutenant Nimetti managed to get a faint blip on the targeting scanners (one of the damaged systems).

Service Stripes Awarded: JoNs, Shadow, TLak

Promotion: TLak from Ensign to Lieutenant junior grade

10.15.08 Agincourt Mission Update:

TBS: None Given

- The cleanup/investigation continues within the blown out secondary labs on Deck 2. Sensors and other affected systems are nominally returning to normal.

- Senior Lieutenant Murray and Lieutenant Junior Grade TLak were checking out damaged crew quarters on the deck; Ensign Karrigan held down the fort in Main Engineering. JoNs, Condacin, Tay, and Kassem were on hand in the lab area. Shadow was able to pull himself together and inhabited the ether again in a semi whole state. Colonel Harper stoically manned the bridge while new CMO Kara reported to the Head Marine Commanding Shark.

- Several intact shards of metal were discovered within the lab area; Forensic Teams from Security led by Team Lead Warrick, along with scanning help from Resident Science Bat Tay and general investigative help from Resident Energy Being Shadow discovered that 1.) The metal fragments were traceable to Korlath Salvage, a Klingon company and 2.) Traces were left on the fragments, and a “mental energy signature” gathered by Shadow that pointed to one of the Agincourt’s own Armory Officers.

- An inside sabotage job? It would appear so. JoNs reported the findings to the Colonel and then abruptly and rudely exited the auxiliary lab area without letting anyone know her intentions … perhaps to pay a visit to the officer in question? Boo Yah.
