She flipped the screen of her medical computer down, sending it into standby mode. Gid rubbed her slender fingers along her bare scalp, breathing a sigh. She had never been one to fall behind on essential record-keeping. Thanks to an exploding console on the bridge, Xiang was the crewmember she knew most about. She'd met Ensign Savros on their last assignment - he was more open than many Vulcans, which meant he was still private. She felt a flush of excitement and smiled wryly to think she had a whole new crew to meet, a whole new department to build.

The Challenger sickbay still seemed bare and impersonal. The mission to the Klingon homeworld hadn't provided her with much time to make it warmer and inviting. The ship was now berthed at a Klingon outpost, where they'd be taking on a new member of the medical staff, Ensign Natalie Harris. Dr. Harris was a young human female, according to her record, with specialties in viral physiology and battle medicine. Useful combinations.

She wondered if she'd get a chance to examine a Klingon up close during the mission. Textbooks were scant with details of their physiology, but there was something envigorating about a race with such physical stamina. Many species in the Federation still tended to rely on their technology more than their own bodies and innate abilities. Klingons reveled in their strength and scorned weakness. They experienced life with vigor, in a way Deltans could appreciate.

Another thin smile pressed her lips together. She would see what she could learn from them.
