The Satarimi Excursion - Day 2

The Satarimi Excursion - Day 2

Aboard the Excalibur

Starring Lt. (jg) Louis Beckman, Ens Sid Langer, & Ens Benjamin Chou

“Is anyone else uneasy with having dinner with an entire group of telepaths?” Sid polled his two companions.

“Are you thinking impure thoughts, my son?” Louis asked in his best priest-like manner.

“Of course! Isn’t that the whole point of being a man?” Sid replied.

“But I thought you weren’t born a man,” Benjamin teased, elbowing Louis.

“I’ll show you how I’m not a man,” Sid said hotly, rising from his seat to unfasten his pants.

“Whoa there, Langer! He was only joking. Save it for the ladies. You are going to send Benny and me to the counselor for therapy.”

“You already need counseling,” Sid grumbled as he sat back down.

“What’s wrong with you, anyway?” Benjamin asked. “You’ve been irritable lately.”

“More irritable than normal, he means,” Louis quipped.

“Thanks for noticing,” said Sid darkly.

“Don’t get mad at us. We’re your friends. You are supposed to tell us things that are bothering you so that we can either beat up the guy that stole your woman or help you get really drunk to forget whatever problem it is,” Louis explained with a smirk.

“Exactly,” Benjamin agreed. “And I vote for drunk because I’m a lover, not a fighter.”

“Not much a lover, either,” Louis jabbed. “Or have I missed the string of ladies visiting your quarters late at night?”

“Shut it, Beckman. This isn’t about me. This is about Sid,” Benjamin said, deftly getting them back on track. “So… out with it, Sid. What’s on your mind?”

“Well,” Sid began, “You guys know that cute little Science officer that I’ve been seeing?”

“Laarell?” Benjamin asked skeptically.

“Uh… no. I don’t do Greenies. Too spinach-like.”

“Tia?” Louis asked, even more skeptically.

“She doesn’t talk to men… or other people, for that matter. So… no. The bald thing is sexy, though it does make me wonder if she’s leading us to V’ger.”

“Who, then? I haven’t seen you with any Science officers lately.”

“Ensign Darcy? Maleia Darcy? I’ve had at least seven dates with her. Short? Red hair? Freckles? She swears like a sailor and drinks like a fish? Ring any bells?”

“Oh! Darcy! Yea, I remember her. Cute, but the only time I’ve seen her is when she’s passed out in your quarters,” Louis replied.

“Yea, she does enjoy the cocktails on her off-days. Anyway, that isn’t the issue. She asked me last night if I loved her.”

“Uh-oh.”

“Yea. I know, right? Trouble.”

“So what did you say,” Benjamin asked. “Please tell me you didn’t stammer or stumble over it.”

“Well…”

“Of all that is holy! You gave her the ‘I like you a lot speech,’ didn’t you?” Benjamin smacked himself in the face. “I’m not believing this. Why can’t you just lie? Women want to hear it, even if you are lying! Dammit, Sid! Just lie!”

“Seriously, Sid. Haven’t your last five failed relationships taught you anything? Chicks don’t want to think they are a temporary fling.”

“I know that!” Sid protested. “But I choked. Again. So she threw a chair at my head, broke two of my vases, and stormed out of my quarters.”

“So what is the issue? You want us to get drunk with you so you can get over her?” Benny asked.

“Hell no. I was over her the minute she left. I want to know how I’m going to get my chair replaced. This is the fourth one that’s been broken in the past month! The quartermaster said if I come back for more replicator credits that he would replicate a chair just to smash it over my head.”

“That’s it?” Louis snorted. “No biggie. I’ll tell him that it is for me.”

“Thanks. I owe you.”

“It is going on your tab,” Louis said. He pulled a data padd from his belt and made some quick notations.

“What? You are actually keeping a tab?” Sid asked as he tried to peer at the screen. “I just thought that was a saying.”

“Nope,” Louis said with a smirk. “I’ve been keeping a tab for you ever since you were an annoying first year at the Academy. And you’ve been racking up quite a lot.”

“Are you planning to cash in any of those?” Benjamin asked in amusement.

“Eventually,” Louis smiled. “I’m waiting for something big.”

“Can I have some?”

“Hey! Favors are nontransferable,” Sid stated.

“Actually, they are my favors, so I may do with them as I please,” Louis said smugly.

“So can I have one?” Benjamin grinned.

“Yes you may. As of now, I transfer one of Sid’s favor IOUs to your keeping. Do with it as you please.”

“Excellent,” Benjamin rubbed his hands together and looked at Sid expectantly. “I shall like to cash in this favor now.”

“I don’t honor transferred favors,” Sid growled.

“Yes you do,” Louis corrected, “or else you won’t be getting your new chair.”

“Fine,” Sid said sharply. “What in the hell do you want, Chou?”

“The dinner with the Satarimi is tonight,” he said thoughtfully. “And I am curious about them, their telepathic abilities, and their tact, so I thought we should test them out.”

“I don’t like the sound of this,” Sid said with a scowl.

“Oh, but it is an easy task,” Benjamin explained. “All you have to do is think.”

“Sid thinking?” Louis laughed.

“Shut up, you. Anyway, as I was saying,” Benjamin continued, “I want you to think about certain things and see if you get any reaction from these Satarimi people.”

Sid sighed. “Like what?”

“Oh, just little trifling things. I’ll make up a list.”

“We are going to have fun with this one,” Louis said, smirking at Benny. “Let me help you with that list. I have a few ideas that might amuse you.”

“And how will you know if I think these thoughts or not?”

“Believe me… we’ll know,” Benjamin assured him. “I don’t care how reserved or well-mannered these Satarimi are, they are not going to be able to ignore some of these thoughts.”

“If you land me in the brig, I’m going to…”

“Do what, exactly?”

“I’ll… I don’t know what I’ll do, but it will be very horrible. And long-lasting.”

“We’ll risk it,” Louis said with a smirk. “Let’s get to Benny. The dinner is in a few hours and I want to fine-tune these thoughts before we have to get tarted up to go.”

“I hate you two. I really do,” Sid said irritably.

“Cheer up, Sid. It could be worse. We could be sending you to flirt with Victria.”

“Or Garrison,” Benjamin added.

“Hey, good idea!” Louis exclaimed. “I’ll have to remember that one for later.”

“I’m never asking for another favor ever again,” Sid promised vehemently.

“Great! As soon as you pay back the seven hundred and twenty-six ones you already owe, you’ll be debt free,” Louis assured him with a pat on the back.
