Greetings Humans!

61 posts in this topic

Today was my first day. Participated in the Academy 9pm session.

I am an unusual individual, I am half human and half Q. It has been requested of me by the Continuum to pass through Starfleet Academy as a human and to serve as a member of Starfleet without using my Q powers. This is a mission from the Continuum to help them learn more about the mystique of the human race and to learn via my experiences.

From time to time I may also have alternative objectives to perform on the side. This will not affect any of my Starfleet duties whatsoever, but they do consist of important routine tasks. Just simple stuff like balancing out the universe and altering and influencing time, space, and events etc.

Look forward to the opportunity for graudation.

Any advice/details/information that can be shared?

::clears throat::

Welcome!

Two things to remember: 1) Any Academy hosted by STSF N'Dak is a guaranteed suicide mission [And that's a direct quote from his signature]. 2) Never compare the GMs to Captains Bligh or Queeg if you want to get graduate sometime before the turn of the century.

That being said, I'd recommend reading: How to sim, as well as: Tips from the Moose

For all your technobabble needs, visit Memory Alpha or Ex Astris Scientia.

Academy times are listed ET, so adjust as appropriate for your timezone. Academies are mandatory, and everyone is human. Save your character development for your Advanced Ship. Minimum graduation time is 3 Academies, but don't expect to graduate that quickly; the host teams prefer to see how are over a longer span of time. And once you are posted to your first Advanced Sim, it's strongly recommended that any ideas that go outside Trek canon be approved by your host team.

I added you as a friend. You have been very courteous and professional via PM. I aspire to one day pass Starfleet Academy and to serve with you.

There are a few objectives on my agenda in the long term that I have to perform as a Q that may require me to perform on the side. Perhaps some time I will offer to take you on one of these expeditions. Don't worry about your current position, as we can fulfill any experiences in the blink of an eye, you wouldn't miss a thing. I am intrigued by your persona.

It should be noted...that all participants in the academy are humans...and cadets, even individuals that have already graduated, due to the hour long plots. We're all just John and Jane Doe's waiting to be sacrificed by N'Dak.

Welcome to STSF! Look forward to simming with you in the Academy.

As a side note, not to be a bummer or anything, but I'm pretty sure you won't find any games here willing to take on a Q player, powerless or otherwise. All characters must be approved in advanced by advanced simulation hosts and most, if not all, have a provision against "super players."

The reason for rules like these is to emphasize the team nature of the forum. Our sims are made up of individual people playing individual characters, but plots usually focus on teamwork. Super players, who can peform quick fixes to problems, can detract from that focus. Feel free to drop by and watch an advanced sim one of these days to get a feel for how they operate.

Oh ok, well I can't change my race, I was born this way, so I understand if it would be more convenient for everybody if I was not that way, but I can't change who I am. I do have powers available to me, but my powers of being half-human and half-Q do not allow me to change my race, and I'm sure not going to petition anybody from the Q Continuum to take my humanity away from me.

I am the ultimate team player and look forward to proving myself as deserving a spot on somebody's team. I have confidence that I will find somebody to accept me for who I am. If I don't, well then I will have a lonely existence here in the Federation, but that's ok, I'm used to it, I was very lonely in the Continuum as well.

Your welcome. You know, if we combine our resources, my post count and your post count puts us over 100 total. Pretty cool huh?

Perhaps we could discuss more about this over some Romulan Ale? :) lol

You can also buy the human version of Romulan Ale. Although it will stain your mouth for a couple days and it doesn't taste very good.

Hi There,

Glad to have you with us! It's not really about who you are. It's more about how you write your character. We all must realize that we are RL people with important real lives and cannot get wrapped up into an imagined world. As for your character, As Grom said, a GM will have to approve it before allowing you to be part of one of our advanced sim crews. You can refuse to change your bio, but that may result in not being given a position.

Your story is a very interesting one, and it may indeed be agreed that you absolutely do not play your character with any Q abilities in sim, and simply explore the Q side in your own writings and back logs. But I would hesitate to be so adamant about your character writing at this point. A lot of people come here with ideas of themselves in the Star Trek universe already established (myself included). But I, and I think a lot of people, would recommend simply playing the academy games as your john/jane doe human character and learning your way around, and then taking it to the next level when you've graduated.

All that said, welcome! Hope to see you around, we're truly glad you're here!

Thanks for the advice!

Well I suppose if nobody accepted me then with my Q powers I could create my own ship and serve as every position and then post a thread detailing the adventures on my one man crew! j/k :)

Here's an example mission recap:

Federation ship Qbert is dispatched to confront an incoming Borg legion to the Milky Way Galaxy.

[insert Tech Talk]

The Borg ships all blew up, Earth lives to see another day. The end.

I don't think its that good to write your bio when you enter a new sim site. Even if you've been simming somewhere else, every sim is very different, (STSF requires lots of training while other sims put you in an advanced sim immediately, for example), and the academy gives you a feel for STSF, and more importantly, how much everyone... disaproves of Borg and Q characters. On sign up sheets to other sims it is usually written not to play Q or Borg, but maybe here if you don't use any of your powers it just might work.

Anyway, before you graduate you don't really have an identity. You play a different role every time and you will see that when the same person is playing security one sim and tactical the next they really act differently. TAC cadets always want to blow things up but when they play CSCI they usually want to find a better way to end a battle.

After playing more than 20 academy sims, I still don't have a name or a defined personality. Keep that for advanced sims.

Poor Cuda. I hope you graduate soon.

When I was still in the academy, because I was a freak for writing bio's, I wrote aliana's. hehe though i did change some of the dates to fit aegis time. Just be careful not to be to super-human or else you will have trouble getting into a sim.

So how does the graduation process work? Are people keeping track and logs of what I do from each post, are they reviewing the chats, will I be requested for interviews or screenings? Are there any graphical bars to show percentages obtained towards full completion? :)

Er, well no interviews or screenings, no percent stuff, I dont know about the logs or chats, but basically when they think you are ready they will have a ceremony type thing at the end of an academy sim.

Oh ok, so it's like a surprise party? :)

How does one get on a ship, do you wait for offers, or do you ask around, how does that process work?
