Your a hard-core Trekkie if...

Actually, on TNG, based on how the stardate is, I can tell you everything that will happen and if any "extras" will die.

I can only do that with one episode -- "Cause and Effect," and only in that one because it's repeated like twelve times. So...kudos on that one. :D

Topic: You're a hard core Trekkie if you can quote from the Trek in disguise and tribute film, Galaxy Quest. By Grapthars Hammer! :-D

And you feel that your life would be complete if you could just find a boyfriend like Brandon.

Alan Rickman in that movie makes my life. "Well...you're just going to have to figure out what it wants -- what is it's motivation?" "It's a rock monster, it doesn't have motivation!" "See, that's your problem, Jason, you were never serious about the craft!"

Ahhh. Cause and Effect. Genius episode. A camera mans dream.

On topic: ....when you can list up to 10 star trek inconsistencies mentally in just a few seconds, for example: 1. The time it takes La Forge compared to Torres to shut down, diagnose, and fix the warp core, 2. Tuvoks ability to scan for time displacement, which the TNG crew, for some reason, doesn't know how to do....10.

...when you find yourself tapping your chest when you have to make a call.

...when you go see the Nasa in the Future exhibit at the Air and Space museum and cry out, "What? They haven't invented artificial gravity by 2020! What? In the future they still carry food? Where are the replicators?!?"

You wish your ambulance/medic unit/police car/fire truck had phasers for those cars that don't get out of the way/ignore you/think they're more important than you

oh man... if it were only so... you could follow the smouldering heaps of vehicles to a call...

I thought ENT was a darn good series with quite a few original ideas. But I know it's like hitting my head against a brick wall when I come up against general opinions of the fan community at large. If the "messing with canon" storylines are so painful, just think of the ENT series as an alternate reality series. It isn't that bad; at least no worse then the "lets explore Data and his humanity" storyline that TNG ran into the ground and just ran the heck out of - B4, etc - it just got old.

I'm sorry, but we had like three series set within the same TNG/VOY/DS9 time frame; I enjoy them all, and they all rock out and offer some great adventures, but the same concept did get boring after a while, so it was a nice change of pace to see a series set in a past time frame.

Another non-explored idea is a future series, a la Agincourt (late 2390's) time frame.

And, yes, for the record, I am curious about the re-imagined original series movie and hope it blows out all the other competition.

Actually, what really annoyed me about ENT was the producers attitude. I listened to the audio commentary of the first episode with Brannon Braga and Rick Berman, I think.

It went something like this:

"Ok, a lot of the fans a didn't like the idea of a prequel, but we did, so it's ok.

This is a very controversial, (that was the word they used), theme sequence, and lots of fans don't like it, but we think its awesome."

I know that the star trek fan club isn't large enough to support a tv show, but still, I think that when you reach a point were your franchise has what I can pretty confidently say is one of the largest fan followings of a tv show, then the producers have a duty to the fans.

Also, while I was listening to that, (mind you, I only tolerated five minutes of this), I couldn't help but laugh at the fact that enterprise failed and was canceled. Should've thought before you gave your fans the finger, people.

And now they're doing it again with the new movie. Everything the franchise has done since the end of voyager was hold up a huge sign saying, "We don't care about our fans."

Mostly, canon between series doesn't bother me, but when you can spot 3 of them in the first episode of ENT before the opening credits, then you can hardly call it Star Trek. I think the main things that came up before the opening credits that bothered me, were:

1. A Klingon RUNNING AWAY from his foes

2. A Klingon weapon of the same technology of the TNG and POST-TNG era

3. A Klingon trying to reason with a human and is then almost killed by primitive human technology

I just like to explain myself. :D

We all have our favorites within ST, and what better way was there to create interest in old fans and new than to tell the story from a point of view not yet explored? Exploring the future is great, but how much more intersting is it to try and figure out from the archielogical evidence how we got here? Look at what they are doing with the movie, after all. Yet again they are going to an era before TOS.

Though I don't know why. TOS and ENT failed so why do they expect the movie not to?

TOS only "failed" because NBC pulled the plug after three seasons, but lived on in syndication for many years before TMP hit the big screen. And The Wrath of Khan, The Voyage Home, and The Undiscovered Country were relative successes.

... You argue the finer points of the TV shows versus the movies, or the six original cast movies versus the TNG cast movies.

I wonder if TOS had a large enough audience for a 4th season. It didn't really have the crowd that TNG did, that I know of, but Star Trek movies have always been made for the public audience.

If you fall in romantical love with one of the characters for a brief period

You meditate like a Vulcan

You name your white, six wheeled, silver lined 2008 Ford truck Seven of Nine

You speak in alien languages to random people accidently

You like catfish and pecan pie just because Trip does

Pineapple is your favorite food just because its Reed's favorite

You have little, affectionate nicknames for all the characters

You continully wish aloud for a transporter, tricorder, scanner, hypospray, ect.

You say "Affirmitive" instead of yes

You speak like Spock/Tuvok/Seven of Nine/T'Pol after a hardcore episode

You suddenly love Scotland and England so much just because two characters are from there

You sing the "Picard song" everytime your out jogging a horse

You trick your friends into watching Star Trek by showing them tribbles

You constantly say "You will be assimilated"

Your chief insults if "Sleeba" and "Ptak"

You wish you could assimilate your brothers to your stupid white dog who barks at her echo on purpose

You wish to become a doctor because no other posting is really right for you

You try to use the infamous Captain Kirk karate chop, but it didnt work and hurt your hand and is puched

You main topic of the day is Star Trek

You use Star Trek as examples to get by in real life.

You are guilty of each and every one of these.

God, knows I am.

Which goes to show just how prescient DS9 was.

There are so many things about the Cardassians and the Dominion War arc that wound up having parallels with current world events. The imagery of the Breen surprise attack on San Fransisco, the issues of a wealthy democracy fighting a war for survival.

BSG explores the same issues (note that Ron Moore was involved with both), but does so from a contemporary setting. DS9 envisioned it before those conditions were real. That's one of the reasons DS9 is the most enduring of the Trek series for me.

Well, besides Star Trek being a brilliant foreteller of the future with the possible exception of the third world war, Star Trek also makes exceptional references to past events, since Gene Roddenberry actually wanted to do a series in the future so that he could commentary on controversial issues that he wasn't allowed to talk about in The Lieutenant.

... while your friends breathlessly talk about the soon to be "Twilight" movie, while you talk breathlessly about the new Star Trek movie.

... You memorized all of Garak's good lines.

... You have most of the cast's, from the shows, official sites bookmarked on your computer.

... Because you cannot buy the posters/t-shirts/other merchandise you make your own.

... You have three huge boxes of star trek goodies (scripts, books, maps, blueprints, ect.)

... You loved star trek from age 4.

... All of the above and more.

...... This is all me. lol... and also, I am more of a hard-core trekker then a trekkie (... if you make a point to define that thin line.).

Only if Lo'll let me have a Valkyrie. It was hard enough just trying to keep R4-D5 and the X-wing inhabiting Shuttlebay 2 on the Arc. (Bonus points for anyone who can figure out what an R4-D5 is. Shoreleave East gang excluded.)

Talking to your microwave does not make you a hard-core trekkie. "Engaging" your car does not make you a hard-core trekkie. Having a folder for every sim you are in makes you a hard-core trekkie. Devoting that sheer amount of time and, well, space, makes me pretty jealous of some fans, seeing as I haven't attended a sim for over a month. Been getting home after 11.
