Your a hard-core Trekkie if...

Thats a good strategy. If someone doesn't want to buy a product you can start screaming: "Resistance is futile! Your money will be assimilated!" then you should do a little Borg dance and pretend to have a biological eye.

But say it in a mechanical voice.

You'd be pretty talented... and geeky. Usually in Trek the first thing you see is deep space. :)

Actually, on TNG, based on how the stardate is, I can tell you everything that will happen and if any "extras" will die.

Wow. Cool. I think I should take a look at that.

Don't extras die in practically every show? Except for possibly Datas day?

Let's see. We have the extras who die from console explosion. Then we've got security extras who die to show us that the monster means business.

The word security explains a great deal...one a security extra = dead meat with painted bulls eye on his/her tunic.

In the new star trek movie they should make new security uniforms with bulls eyes. That would be so cool that I would forgive them for making a prequel instead of a sequel, (didn't they learn their lesson when enterprise got cancelled?)

Short answer? No.

Its so depressing to be a Star Trek fan in the 21st century.

You are a hard-core trekkie when the news of a star trek prequel puts you in a state of a depression and that the only way to cheer you up is to go through all of TNG season four in one day.

I thought ENT was a darn good series with quite a few original ideas. But I know it's like hitting my head against a brick wall when I come up against general opinions of the fan community at large. If the "messing with canon" storylines are so painful, just think of the ENT series as an alternate reality series. It isn't that bad; at least no worse then the "lets explore Data and his humanity" storyline that TNG ran into the ground and just ran the heck out of - B4, etc - it just got old.

I'm sorry, but we had like three series set within the same TNG/VOY/DS9 time frame; I enjoy them all, and they all rock out and offer some great adventures, but the same concept did get boring after a while, so it was a nice change of pace to see a series set in a past time frame.

Another non-explored idea is a future series, a la Agincourt (late 2390's) time frame.

And, yes, for the record, I am curious about the re-imagined original series movie and hope it blows out all the other competition.

I am more of TNG/DS9/VOY era fan, and I am aware of how amazingly flawed they are, but it is very hard for me to sit through TOS because of the lack of amazing technology I got used to with later series. That's the only thing I hold against ENT. TOS and ENT are good shows, but I get the feeling that most fans, as with me, would much rather go into the future, where no one has gone before, for the movie and what could have been instead of ENT, because that is what star trek is supposed to be about. It's the future, and TOS does not always give off a futuristic impression.

Besides, when I see Patrick Stewart in another film, he's not Patrick Stewart. He's Jean-Luc Picard. This is so for all the casts of star trek. Even though I will probably end up going to see the film on the first day it comes out, I believe it will be painful for me to see a new cast take on TOS roles. I can't see TOS fans getting used to a new Kirk and Spock team.

Remakes are becoming an american tradition. Everything that did well once is being done again. Also, since star trek has one of the largest followings, it is a real insult to the fans to be doing this movie at all. It could possibly kill the franchise for good. Not that I don't understand from a writers point of view, the difficulties of writing a post-nemesis storyline.

They may be trying to get non-Trekkies interested in Star Trek again. When most non-Trekkies hear Star Trek, they think of TOS. It makes sense that they would try to attract them with the original crew. They can't make what would be considered a successful movie or even a successful TV series with majority of the viewers being Star Trek fans, could they?

Good point. Still, I would sleep easier if I knew that they were keeping us in mind.

Wait? Does that mean I'm not a hard-core trekkie anymore?

If it does, I'll need to brush up on my Vulcan for dummies.

You get a lights and sirens emergency call, you look at your partner and go "Warp Factor 70, Mr. Worf" (And he understands you)

You wish your ambulance/medic unit/police car/fire truck had phasers for those cars that don't get out of the way/ignore you/think they're more important than you

You can't wait for the medical scanner to come out (and be affordable for field use) so you tell those uppity ER nurses where to shove their "Oh, that's normal" comments.

....when the only Star Trek books you buy are ones NOT based on a TV series or movie because you can predict what they will say and do.

....when you stop at the library to buy books from the $.50 used paperback books section, and the librarian and you are on a first name basis!
