More Real World Sci-Fi Come True

I was going to post the bit, but it's pretty long. Basically it's about M/AM drives.

Neat stuff, Cori. And I love that first line: "No engine is likely to generate superluminal speeds; the laws of physics prevent us from doing that."

Kinda reminds me of "We'll never get to the moon. The radiation belt around the earth will fry us." Also, "We'll never get anything past the asteroid belt."

Am I dating myself? ::chuckle::

Not really. Besides, all we need to do is circumvent the laws of physics.

perhaps a few tweaks on the laws of physics should do the trick

Yes! Now HE has the right mindset...

It's not a matter of breaking the wall that modern physics places on the speed of light. Consider taking two steps to the side and walking around the wall. The most likely possibility for circumventing speed of light travel would probably be some way of folding space.

I'm reminded of Q:

"Simple. Change the gravitational constant of the universe."

Gee... sounds like the flux drive of the Ranger. ::grin::

Humankind will travel a lot faster in space fairly soon....which is about 55 years from now :P ::points towards Star Trek: First Contact::

...of course in reality, that last statement is highly inaccurate. At this rate, who knows when we'll travel sublight speeds, but nontheless we will travel fast...like REALLY FAST in the future. That's my theory.

I like the Doom/Event Horizon "Open a dimensional rift and unleash demon monster things" idea.

All we need is to go back in time, convince Newton to climb up a tree, and throw apples at him. That'll change the laws of physics all right.
