Missing indefinity

I am going to miss my two sims for a preiod of time which I dont know how long it is going to be.

My computer isnt letting me load links (including the ready room and holodeck, or any other links I try.) I click the link, and it doesnt load, even in a few hours. I have cleaned my history, cache, deleted files. I was going to download the Java thing, but with the 100's of them,I dont know what one to download. Any help would be help full.

For Java, you want to download the latest version of the Java Virtual Machine *for your system* -- this should leave you only one choice.

Go to:

http://java.sun.com/getjava/manual.html

and click on the correct link (most likely "Windows, English").

Save it to your disk.  Run the file.

What system are you using?  Browser?  Can you be more specific about your problem?

Hey there,

Have you updated Windows lately (including Internet Explorer)?

I had a problem once, updated something and it solved the problem.

Try uninstalling your current version of Java too.  Another thing that might work is trying a different browser.   If you're using MISE, try Netscape.  If you're on Netscape, use MISE.

Good luck!

Well, there is no new critical updates, or anything that I care about (AKA; language futures.) As for MISE, I dont know what that is, so can you please tell me more.

Moose, and T'rex: I will read the chat logs and if you see me trying to get in, but it is enter, then exit, in a few sec, that is a bad sign.

Hey there,

I think you mean...

MSIE: Microsoft Internet Explorer.

I cant load netscape, or it doesnt show web pages, and my provider doesnt work.

Does anyone know how to re-install the internet, which might fix the problem.

Downloading something from a website is a bit difficult if you don't have a working browser to begin with (So how are you able to post to the board?). You might have to get it on CD-ROM or something.  In most cases this is free.  There will probably be shipping charges, but it's usually not much.

Can you be a lot more specific about what works and what doesn't?  Maybe give a step-by-step account of what you do and what programs you do them in, and where it stops working.

You seem to be able to post here, so your browser (Internet Explorer?) works... and your internet provider is working, at least sometimes.

My internet sever is working, it is just links.

For example on the readyroom. I click log in (if I am not)

Then, at te location were the chat screen it, is a new window. On the bottom task bar, it says "internet explorer."

From that screen, nothing happens.

The only thing that doesnt work is the links. I can still go to websites, but not link from one to the other,

*all* the links don't work after you've clicked on the ready room?  Just the links to the ready room don't work?

For now, try to download the latest version of Internet explorer first (go to Microsoft's website and you'll be able to find it), uninstall Internet explorer and Java (you should be able to do this through control panel->add or remove programs), and reinstall both.

Alternatively, try to download Mozilla 1.3.1 (http://www.mozilla.org) and Java (http://java.sun.com) and install those.  (The Java installation may be a bit more complicated than just running the install program, I don't know if they've updated it to work properly with Mozilla).  The idea is to just try this in another browser other than Internet explorer.

The other thing I've heard is that virus protection and firewall software will sometimes interfear with the room.  If you've installed either of these, try un-installing or disabling it and see what happens.

You can go to the menubar in Mozilla and/or NetScape and then click on: Help > about plug-ins.

That will show you all of the browser plugins you have installed. If you don't see java then you can go to http://wp.netscape.com/plugins/search_pi.html?cp=plp using the same browser and get plugins for Mozilla and NetScape there. Choose the OS you have and then search for plugins. The plugins listed work for both (Mozilla & NS) browsers.

Regardless of the browser you use, you will still have to uninstall Java before upgrading. If you just click on the download and install, it should either ask if you want to uninstall or tell you to go to Add/Remove programs in Windows and uninstall it.

When I used Mozilla with the 1.4.1_02 update it prompted to uninstall the previous version for me. You might have to click on the link again after it's uninstalled, to update and install the new version. Watch the prompts. I was prompted that the uninstallation was successful and to do it again to install java. It might be different with your computer and/or OS. After that is all said and done, it should install java. Also it will install java plugins for all browsers NS/Mozilla and IE.

It's not that difficult. Actually easier than IE, and installs the IE plugins.
