... would you and what would it the series be like?

Yes. Although, if I was given the choice btw a series on the TV or a series of books, I would probably opt to write the books.

My era and choices:

1.) Section 31 adventures set in the non-explored time period between the Original Series and TNG, roughly about the original cast movie era. Hey, secret missions - what's not to love?

2.) A fighter pilot based Trek adventure, set circa 2375-2390's, but not a Battlestar Galactica clone. Actually, a good "template" for the type of series/book I have in mind would be a little known sci fi series from the mid 1990s known as "Space: Above and Beyond" (multi-purpose soldiers who did both flight jock stuff and marine ground pounding stuff), just the idea re-worked of course and with much more of a Trek naval feel to it. The Space show was straight on marine military.

3.)at least one crewmember has got to be a Caitian, and I would want extreme coverage/appearances of said main character, not as a secondary character. ::is biased::

I would choose a post DS9 w/ Col. Kira et. al. or one of the series like Titan, New Frontier or similar.

It's got to be based on the Corps of Engineers. Then they could help everyone, including the "31" the Ambassadors, a few alternate universes, etcetera. Got to be set when they've got Holodecks too. But then, the NX-01 met a race with this technology, so the time frame could be changed as the mood of the writers goes. No real need to be stuck in any one time frame, or any one set of permanent characters.

Star Trek Variety Hour!

Honest.

Actually, I've thought about this for awhile. Star Trek: Universes. Each script follows a different crew, ship, station, whatever. Most would probably be just one episode deals with the occasion story arc spanning 2 or 3 episodes. One week might be a TOS time period, then TNG, then Enterprise era Klingon, Post Voyager Borg, TOS Mirror Romulan resistance front, whatever.

Advantages, you get to use a lot of existing Trek history and locations. Also, you change the cast so no one starts asking for some huge paycheck. Money you save that way you dump into some big name guest stars and pulling together old cast. Wanna see just ONE more Enterprise episode...okay. Wanna see what DS9 has been up to, got it. All those aspects and characters of Trek who will never see a movie... here's there chance. (I've always thought DS9 should have done what Alien Nation did and start doing TV mini-series ever so often). Heck, if you want to have a REALLY cheap week, run a contest for the best Fan Film and show it.

I went through a period where I was trying to create a series based on the Romulans. It would be interesting to get a non-Federation perspective on things...

Have Tech, Blowtorch and Duct Tape, Will Travel.

And, I like Kallah's suggestion. How about: take the Trek Variety Hour and put it in a miniseries format. Say two, four hour miniseries shown two or three times a year.

I always thought it would be cool to do a future trek show, set after 2600 at least. A sort of The Next Next Generation. Given a large time break between the series, you could do whatever you really wanted with the galaxy. Technology could advanced to the point where the Federation could be exploring the delta and gamma quadrants too.

Or...they could just use timetravel to fix all of Trek's cannon flubs.

By that point, the Federation probably would have collapsed ... or it would be on the verge of collapse. Now that would make for an interesting series. A Roman Empire-esque treatment -- the increasing corruption of the Council, internal divides among the UFP worlds, new threats from outside, leading to the actual fall of the Federation.

Or how about a series that takes place after all that's already happened? You could have the crew of a starship joining others trying to pick up the pieces and start something new and better, or simply trying to survive in the now dangerous Federation space.

i really like this idea actually! when i was first reading it i was thinking the cost for all those different sets for all the different eras might be a little cost prohibitive, but the money saved on the actors might balance it out in the end. mini series, also a good idea.

Just so everyone knows, the Federation exists to the thirty first century at least, when people learn to build temporal communicators in high school.

Another lover of that short lived series? I just found it on DVD. I forgot how terrible the pilot was...but it gets so much better.

No future is certain. I'm sure there was at least one Trek episode that taught us that.

Indeed, there are several of us who thought Space: Above and Beyond was awesome.

I'm not going to bet money on this, but from what I remember there's no mention of a Federation in the 31st Century. We know humans still exist (more or less), but I don't ever believe there was a direct mention of Starfleet, or the Federation existing. I dont think it would be a strech to say that it does though, we know that the Federation and Starfleet existed at least until the 26th Century, during the battle of Procyon V.

That far into the future is extremely hard to picture though. With the inherrant complications of time travel, and the apparent policy to teach how, to highschool students (How many horny teenagers created Grandfather Paradoxes you think?) the future really could be anything.

I'm not sure, but I think it was mentioned that Braxton (Voyager's man from the future) was from some arm of the Federation, but don't quote me on that.

Only if Daniel REALLy messed up.

For a series where the Federation has fallen, you want Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda. Yes, that series wasn't based in the "Trek" universe but the idea was the same. The utopian society had fallen with only a few remnants fighting against chaos.

w00t! I actually just located it on DVD a few weeks ago myself after stumbling across some series information during some online research, and the show looked fun and interesting. I'm not disappointed. I'm goin' Elvis!

We know the Borg still exist (in a few time lines) in the 29th Century with regards to the MobilEmiter

I'd love to see somthing w/ Kira and Vaughn on DS9 with some Rear Admiral Janeway thrown in for fun w/ her crew ... perhaps The Titan can make appearences as well as M'k'n'z'y and The Excalibure ... who knows ... I say do a 10-20 year stint like they did between TOS and TNG to let ppl forget about it... then BAM! a new series, not a 'preseries' but a whole new one.

(One was a borg, but he was created from the 29th century mobile emmiterbecause that was how advnced it was. It doesnt mean the Borg still exist then.

What would be great if there is an actual fair competiton between all five captains and their crews, (well, somehow get duplicate Worfs and O'Breins). Not to mention a harmonius blend of all the Star Treks that everyone would like. And hopefully not as sentimental and a little more belivable. How about someone on a Federation crew tempted into deep darkness, a little more death of known characters, emotion filled periods.

All five treks had their great points. Mystery and growing from Voyager and The Next Generation. Science filled plots rom Voyager. Morals from the Orginal series, Voyager and Enerprise with light humor. Reality and complex, belivable characters from Deep Space Nine and Enterprise. With careful attention, the greatest series of them all can be achieved. With five series, five experinces, just like a Trill smbyont, it will work.

I've been thinking about this recently,

It's called Star Trek Netoya Lab 7.

About A Science Star base situated outside a massive anomoly nicknamed the Void, where any ships that enter, don't come back and so far scans cannot get any readings. The Series would be about the Starbase crew learning about what the void is.

The Captain would have to be a Scientist I'm thinking older Gentleman, Like santa.

The First Officer would be Wu from the Stargazer series.

CSCI Young Human Male

CENG Focused Vulcan Male

CSEC Outgoing Human Female

CMO Older Human Female

OPS Joy - With her permission of coarse

The Starbase would have One Miranda Class Refit and a few science refitted shuttles.

The mission of the small Star Base is to learn as much as they can about the void.

Other species are also researching it and some other local inhabitance have whole religions surrounding.

I think that way there is much room for conflict, interaction with other species, and an awesome series Finally

Itd be cool to have a series that acknowledges all the past events in STar Trek as relevant events. Even have all five captains meet (Maybe with Kirk's new actor  )
