Cadet logs

Now i see that every advance sim group has their own log section but cadets in the academy don't. Can we fix this with perhaps an example of what a log looks like so that way we can have logs too?

Logs are not required of academy cadets. Occasionally, academy cadets who want to practice or post logs do so to this folder ("STSF Academy").

And as for samples, the ones in the advanced sim boards are a wealth of samples. Some ships do periodic log awards; if you're looking for a model of what a "good" log is, you might want to look at the winners of those.

Now, that might be hard to pin down an exact answer, as it depends on the writer/player and the sim. If you look at the Advanced Bios or Advanced logs, some people could care less about dates, and others use them. The date format can vary as well, from a February 25, 2385, to the current "real date" (April 29, 2008), to the 0804.29 type of thing.

Quickie breakdown:

Hood - TOS years, 2200's

Challenger - TOS movie era (late 2200's)

Qob, Excal, Republic, Aegis, Reaent, Talon, Manticore, Arcadia - the 2380's or so (apologies if I flubbed on anyones era date)

Agincourt - 2397

As for how to calculate the date formats or any Trek websites that are able to convert the dates, I'll let a math whiz handle that one. :-D

The era for Arcadia is correct, although I'm reluctant to pin it down to a Gregorian date. After all, the ship's been running for a long time, and, if I did pin it down, it would probably be in Agincourt era by now. :-)

Also, you only rarely see references to Gregorian dates on Star Trek by the 24th century (Beyond the century reference, do you ever?).

The stardates I use are 5YYMM.DD

where YY= a 2 digit Gregorian year when the sim took place, MM=sim month, DD=sim day

For example, if there were a sim today, it would be stardate 50804.29

There is no direct connection between real time passage and sim time passage.

I used to use 1YYMM.DD, then the whole millennium thing happened and I didn't want my dates to go backwards, so I standardized back on the 5's that are used by other people.

I use a Javascript converter ( http://steve.pugh.net/fleet/stardate.html ) into which I plug the Gregorian date for Agincourt. But, I'm obsessive and actually know what day it is in Agincourt's timeline. (Well, at the moment I don't, because I'm 2 months behind on tracking, but usually I do.) Most people are not nearly so, er... odd.

I try to keep a rough idea in my head as to what date it is in the Excalibur universe. Roughly It's sometime in February 2383 or ~ SD 60104.1, but thats only an edumicated guess. Generally If I plug a stardate in, though, I use the standard YYMM.DD for the date I am doing it on.

Challenger's set just after Star Trek VI, which puts it in the year 2294. Generally, I use the 1YYMM.DD format (e.g. 10804.29). THough I could also use the 9404.29 format too.. but as the sim runs longer, that may not prove to be pratical over the years (if it goes that long, *knock on wood* lol)

I had that same question.... I still do, but if you want to find a date I would go to this star trek stardate calc. online.

Or really organized with a streamlined attention to detail Colonel.

::points to Capts. LoAmi and Corizon and Col. Harper:: See? Math whizzes.
