Some Ideas on the Diplomatic Area

31 posts in this topic
My initial drawings put the Diplomatic Hub towards the top of Pylon 2 on Decks 2 and 3, so its narrower up there. The overall width would be about half, closer to 100 meters. This eliminated the Computer Core from the center - it doesn't start till Deck 3 - and keeps it close to the Main Conference Room at the top. If we need more than two decks, a third (or fourth) could go below where it's wider, using the same access restrictions.

Any thoughts?

I like having the lobby being above the core, so we don't have the huge column in the middle of our open space. The flip side is that the decks above the core are quite a bit smaller.

If I'm not being greedy, I'd like to expand the diplomatic section a bit downwards.

1. Diplomatic common.

2 - 3. Lobby level and signatory embassies.

4 - 5 Lower levels of signatory embassies, with grand ballroom in the sixth wedge.

6 - 7 "Will build to suit" area for any other powers who would care to come in.

I don't know that the signatories really need four decks, but at least the three.

Would likely depend on the signatory itself. Some of it might just end up being "storage" or void space for say the Klingons.

Agreed. I think the working theory is that to avoid chest thumping status squabbles, the signatories are being offered equal space. They are not being required to use it all. I doubt that even the Federation and Cardassians would find immediate use for four decks, but Joy has great faith in organic being's ability to expand bureaucracy to fit 110% of available space...

Ok, here's the finished suite. I made it for 6 main embassies vice 5. We really don't need one for the Federation. Sorehl can occupy the Vulcan embassy and represent both the Vulcans and Federation if he so desires. I also added a section for the infirmary for DJ. I know it looks small but it's actually a pretty good size.

That's it, everything else is the same like was shown previously (see deck 1 and deck 2 layouts). Congratulations. We now have an Ambassadorial Suite!

In the last sim, Caelan was assigned to make sure the diplomatic hub's decorative elements were installed properly. I'm thinking about doing a log where I'll need to talk about the fancy stuff we've put in there (the paint job, lighting, fountains, furniture, indoor gardens, exotic birds, Metallica posters, etc.). I figured the individual embassies will want to decorate according to the customs of their culture (though correct me if I'm wrong), so that leaves the generic furnishings we'll provide and the common areas for Caelan to focus on in a log.

So I guess I'm asking for a couple of things:

1) Which image(s) represents the final version of Decks 1 and 2?

2) What decorative elements have been (if any) guaranteed to make an appearance? It'd make for pretty dry reading if I try to list everything, but I can try to make a log about something interesting that occurred while engineering one of your suggestions.

I read through this thread a few times, and so far this is what I've seen:

Common Areas

Flags of each embassy

Central fountain

Scenic Windows

The Balcony (I know these are often pretty generic, but I was imagining something a bit more ornate than your average station balcony)

I'll be creative if I don't see a lot of suggestions, but I didn't want to do a log about something that's been a massive contribution from several people without getting some input.
