Jaden Praxx

Mistaken Identity (part 2)

this log takes place immediately after "Mistaken Identity (part 1)"

B'Etor shifted, not used to sleeping on the ground. She moaned softly, smiling as she barely opened her eyes, seeing Jaden lying next to her. Seeing him made any minor aches from sleeping on a hard ground go away. She rolled over, and slid her arm across his waist, nestling her body against his. She kissed his neck softly, and closed her eyes again. "Morning, baby…" She whispered into his ear, nuzzling her ridged nose against the nape of his neck.

Praxx stirred and felt her move up against him. He smiled and ran his fingers through her hair and suddenly noticed something was wrong. He opened his eyes looking down and drew in a sharp breath of surprise as he scrambled away and up into a sitting position as he saw the klingon/romulan medical officer lying next to him. "Patterson!" he said, shock clear in his raised tone. "What the hell are you doing here?!"

B'Etor smiled, still half out of it from sleep. She leaned up, resting on her elbow and her black eyes opened more. She yawned and looked at him oddly as he stared at her with a look she had never seen across his face before. After collecting her senses, she sat all the way up and her arched brows furrowed in a look of awe and confusion. "You haven't called me by my last name since the Academy. What do you mean what am I doing here? You invited me, remember?? Shore leave...?" She stared at him wondering what was wrong with him.

"I didn't invite you anywhere, I was down here with Ensign MacKenzie, where is she??" he was becoming belligerent and his tone was gradually escalating. He was clearly very confused and seemed to also be somewhat disoriented.

"Ensign MacKenzie!?" Her ridged nostrils flared as she looked at him, her black eyes widening. A look of anger came over her face and she growled lowly at him. "Why would MacKenzie be here?! You invited me to come with you since we have barely seen each other since we graduated!"

"Patterson I don't know what the hell you're up to but I'm not amused." he said gathering up his things from the tent and standing quickly. He moved outside and headed for the equipment pack. "You've gone way too far here." He used the comm unit on the pack to contact the Excalibur and a few moments later he dematerialized leaving her standing alone outside the tent.

"What!? Amused?! You weren't saying that last night!" She watched him and she went from angry to completely confused. Seeing him leave she paused for a moment, running over the last few hours in her head. "We…beamed down... sat at the lake...made a fire…he said it was great...what…" She got a look of bewilderment and then she thought of Ensign MacKenzie again. "MACKENZIE!? WHAT…HOW DARE HE!" She started pacing, her Klingon temper flaring to a boiling point. She glared around, her fists opening and closing at her side as she started mumbling horrific things under her breath

Praxx walked over the last ridge and saw B'Etor standing outside of the tent. She looked a little tense and he wondered if maybe she was upset about something. He had taken his combadge with him so she could easily have located him if she'd wanted to so he assumed she wasn't mad about him being gone. As he walked down the hill towards her she turned and looked at him and the glare that she sent his way stopped him in his tracks...

Her head high, her eyes were wide, her breathing going in deep pants, as if a bull about to charge the fighter. She saw him stop and her fists continued to open and close. "Oh, first you run off, screaming about Ensign MacKenzie, now you just walk back!? If you want to be with Ensign MacKenzie you could have just told me!" She moved towards the tent, and then stopped, looking back at him. "MacKenzie… are you insane?!"

He stood there with his jaw hanging open and his eyes wide and for a moment was as still as stone. Then he suddenly blinked away the haze, and started moving down the hill towards her. "What the hell are you talking about B'Etor??" He asked, clear confusion evident in his voice.

"I woke up this morning and you acted like you had seen your worst enemy in bed with you!? How could you?! Why would you invite me, then want Ensign MacKenzie?!" Her eyes almost looked hurt, but her pursed chocolate colored lips, flared nostrils and posture screamed anger. "You packed all your stuff and left!" She turned her back to him, starting to pack her own stuff up. "You want MacKenzie, the wet mop, fine!"

"MacKenzie...Erica MacKenzie? The science tech? What the hell has she got to do with anything?" he asked, her words just not sinking in and his confusion growing exponentially by the second. He could tell she was obviously very upset about something, and it seemed that her anger was directed at him and apparently it had something to do with Erica MacKenzie, but he still wasn't able to put all the pieces together. "What is it you're so upset about??"

"WHAT AM I UPSET ABOUT!? YOU TOLD ME YOURSELF THAT YOU INVITED MACKENZIE HERE…AND MY BEING HERE WAS GOING WAY TO FAR!" She was yelling now, and her eyes were starting to well with tears. She wanted to hit him, smack him, something, but the pain of him wanting MacKenzie over her was winning over the anger and she started to feel nauseous. "All I want to know is why... Why would you invite me here and then say it's not amusing? I thought…you told me you…you loved me..." Her voice got low and her chin started to quiver slightly. She would be damned if she was going to cry in front of him. Turning from him, she gathered up the last of her stuff.

"B'Etor I don't know what the hell you're talking about but I've been gone for nearly three hours. I woke up early and didn't want to disturb you so I went for a walk." He had no idea what she was talking about with this conversation she said she'd had with him but it was clear that something was horribly awry here.

"No...you weren't! You were lying right next to me! I put my arm around you, I felt you…I kissed your neck! I know it was you!" She paused, looking at him, her eyes getting wide again, the hard, rhythmic panting starting up again. She clutched the pack she had put her stuff into and her hand went up, pointing randomly around. "If this is some kind of…sick joke…you and MacKenzie or Josh are pulling..." She moved by him, her shoulder jamming into his arm. "What did I do to deserve this... I can't..." She walked away, having no idea where she was going.

He stood there dumbfounded watching her stalk away still not knowing what the hell was going on. He called after her but she ignored him and kept walking. He thought about walking after her but decided that it'd be better to just give her some time to work out whatever she was upset about while he tried to figure out just what exactly was going on. He sighed and seemed to visibly deflate as he moved back towards the tent and crawled inside taking a seat on his sleeping mat and trying to sort out the jumble of thoughts racing through his head.

She was seething with anger and yet felt so crushed by what Jaden had done to her. How dare he humiliate her and make her feel like some dog to be kicked into the gutter. She tapped her combadge, beaming back to the ship…
