"Soltan Data Diving"

04.07.08

USS Agincourt NCC-81762

“Soltan Data Diving”

It was official. She had gone cross-eyed, and was starting to show signs of caffiene withdrawal.

Lieutenant Commander Kansas JoNs blinked and wiped a paw across her eyes to clear the blurriness. Data sifting might not be life threatening or a mission that was full of adventure, but the practice did have its own share of hazards. And what time was that showing on the chronometer? It was very late apparently. Data trolling also tended to bring out the nocturnal streak in those species predisposed to the genetic condition. Such as felines. Or the occasional human suffering from a malady called the Night Owl. Kansas had never really understood the whole concept of the Night Owl, other then the fact that it sounded way too much like prey, but the humans who had contracted this condition were forever nocturnal afterwards.

And yes, someday, all the nocturnal species will own the universe. Oh wait, no … this was her evil side coming out again. It was a definite caffeine withdrawal, totally.

The Caitian scrolled to another section of the data stream, pleased overall with the content; the marine section of the assault team had done a thorough job of downloading – or was that stealing? – the encrypted data from the Soltan prison computer system during the mission to rescue the eminent scientist Doctor Ktorem Senok.

As ships second officer, JoNs was responsible for sifting through the downloaded Soltan data to locate anything of value. Of particular interest was anything pertaining to Senok. There was no doubt the scientist was brilliant, considering his research had led to the creation of his subspace communications array. And after his liberation from incarceration, he had jumped right in on the Soltan warp technology project that engineering and the science departments were making a go of . But, the fact still remained that the alpha quadrant scientist had been abducted, brought here to the Perseus Arm and chucked into a Soltan prison. Why? And who exactly had done the abducting? JoNs assumed his research was of definite interest, and Senok himself admitted that he really had no memory of his captors or any clear memories during the past few months that he had been missing.

In addition to the Senok factor, there were other areas of interest to consider. Tactical, military, general information, technology, whatever; if a section of the stolen data looked plausible, Kansas would report in to the senior shark commanders with her findings. So, the feline poured over the star charts, prison records, drop off dates, scanned ID cards of regular visitors to the prison, visual scans of the prisoners themselves, and tons of other recorded information in order to find anything plausible that the crew of the Agincourt could exploit and use to their advantage.

The feline lieutenant commander ordered up another mug of hot chocolate from the small replicator server she had in her quarters, and then settled in the chair behind her desk for another couple hours of data diving. If the information was there, she would find it. She had to locate something soon because time was not on the ‘Courts side. More then ever, they needed to warp out of the Perseus sector and get back home before someone tried to get Senok back.
